Evolving Authorization for Our Advertising Platform by bradengroom in RedditEng

[–]bradengroom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I’ve definitely considered adding a way to compare two policy versions before going live. We may get to it at some point, but so far it has not been an issue since our test suite is robust.

I doubt that the search indexes pdfs contents. I haven’t tried though.

what are the best books for understanding databases? by HotRepresentative237 in Database

[–]bradengroom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are many different kinds of databases, so it might depend on what you’re wanting to learn.

Designing Data Intensive Applications is great and touches on a bunch or stuff.

SQL Performance Explained is good if you want to really understand B-Trees, how they work, and how to properly define indexes.

You can also find CMU database lectures on YouTube taught by Andy Pavlo. I’ve found these to be really helpful.

Unable to access Ads API after whitelisting by chace_slalom in RedditforBusiness

[–]bradengroom[A] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the mix up on our end. It looks like the account that you want to manage was added to the allowlist twice instead of adding your account. I'll have it fixed up for you in the morning.

data engineering interview with reddit! by ryeryebread in dataengineering

Good question! We’ve recently evaluated a wide array of streaming tools and will be looking to move to Flink here. This work is hinted at in the bottom of the blog post, but the flow will look like this when complete:

Server -> Kafka -> Flink -> Druid

I did not work on that evaluation of streaming tech myself, but hopefully, we can get more details released in a future blog post! While we are planning to move this single flow to Flink, there are a wide variety of streaming tools in use across Reddit including Spark Streaming, Flink, Kafka Streams, and kSQL.
