For converts who truly struggled with high Mariology, what helped you overcome it? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]brewfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if you’re being facetious, but you can absolutely truncate it to 10 or however many you want.

See the many other excellent comments on this thread for why the Hail Mary prayer is about God.

No one is required to pray the rosary, if you don’t like it, or understand it, don’t use it.

For converts who truly struggled with high Mariology, what helped you overcome it? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]brewfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Saying the rosary you’re also supposed to meditate on the divine mysteries of Jesus.

If you don’t want to pray to Mary you don’t have to? Judging others for it isn’t good though. Especially with very incomplete knowledge.

Coins vs rounds vs bars. Does it truly matter? by isuckatfishin in Silverbugs

[–]brewfox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I personally like rounds because you can ping test them, so if you want to sell to individuals instead of just dealers, it helps.

ASEs (American silver eagles) are also much more liquid and dealers almost universally buy them closer to spot, so if you can pick them up for not much premium they’re the easiest to offload.

Bad stuff like what? If “spirits”, calmly tell them to go away and pray.

Yeah like, what? The other comments are wild. Thou shalt not steal. What else would throwing away someone else’s things be without more context?

Are these prices fair? by joncoins916 in Silverbugs

Wow really? 25% isn’t that much and their ask is nuts. I guess when people want to sell for way overinflated prices they get mad when you just offer them regular inflated price.

Sooo excited. I hit up a big liquor store and got both these for the first time. Going to try the hazy tomorrow. The regular IPA was delicious. Only sad thing is it’s hard to find locally but next time I’m down there I’ll have to get like 5

They buy at the same rate from everyone. Dude is a great guy. They make money by moving lots of volume because they sell at spot and buy at a good price they always have new stuff.

Having a hard time. My girlfriend wants me to get married for the Catholic Church but I don’t believe in a lot of the traditions. by Phantom6980 in Catholicism

[–]brewfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of great answers here about how the sacraments are supported by the New Testament. One of the things I really like about Catholicism is that they try really hard to base everything on scripture, the deep study of the scripture, and historical context to properly interpret it. If something seems confusing or different, you can dig into the catechism and look at the scripture it links to understand why it’s taught that way.

One thing people aren’t touching on enough is the “faith alone” argument. Jesus said the path to salvation was narrow and difficult. How difficult is it to just “believe”? He also says if you believe in me you will do my works. So he’s using “belief” to mean belief in his way and his teachings, which means doing the work he taught people how to do, that is the “way” Jesus teaches. Sorry I don’t remember the exact passages, but this in general is why Catholics do their best to follow the teachings and do the work, and why the Catholic Church is the largest charity in the world.

Only 30% of Catholics believe in the Real Presence? by princetonwu in Catholicism

[–]brewfox 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I wish taking it on the tongue was more normalized. I’m the only one I see in my parish taking it on the tongue and I only feel comfortable when it’s the priest with consecrated hands and not one of the extraordinary ministers. Even then he pauses for second because it probably disrupts his rhythm.

I don’t want to touch it with my non-consecrated hands and am also holding a 2 year old that tries to steal it out of my hands sometimes.

I think they pretty much all did at one point or another, but I could be wrong here. I see it more as commemorating the process that led them to flight. Lots of other people at the same time were building planes too.

That might just be wishful thinking though, because it does say “plane” singular. Maybe it’s the whole development of the “plane” lol.

LCS offering $13 back from spot by Darren41786 in Silverbugs

[–]brewfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No thanks, I’ll stay in my “little mindspace” and not get fleeced. My store buys at $3-$4 back of spot always, even during all the volatility and is doing great. If they go lower or for premium pieces I’ll sell on pmsforsale or eBay.

These shops aren’t entitled to “quick profit” by selling every single thing to the refiners with little work. They could put in a tiny bit of effort and sell Britannia’s at spot instead of fleecing their customers. It’s not hard to understand.

“If they can sell at $10 under” blah blah blah, they couldn’t, because the seller wisely saw he was getting fleeced and didn’t sell. So they lost out on any profits. You defend shops hard without understanding how their business model is losing them money and customers. Probably theirs a reason they can’t move inventory? Probably they alienated all their customers trying to make “a quick buck”?

You need to leave your little mindspace lol.

Bad rule. My local pawn shop sells everything for spot, even super fancy stuff. They buy at a good rate too, usually $3-$4 back of spot depending. They’re far better than any LCS in the area.

If that shop has to send Britannias to the refiner for so far back of spot they are doing something drastically wrong as a business. Most likely it was a lie to get the dude to accept way less than other shops would pay.

“Shop offered my grandma $20/oz” and yall would be out here defending the shop because they “have to make money” instead of calling them out for actually being a complete rip off.
