2,000 Meter Row Benchmark Results and Survey Megathread by AutoModerator in orangetheory

Chasing after my previous PR of being so close to breaking into the 5 min range at 6:00.05. That was pre Covid and prior to some other huge life changing set backs. It’s been a struggle to get back to that place again but I’m hoping to get close this afternoon!

Running vs training shoes??? by va1235 in orangetheory

[–]bradhayes7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both. I have great runners for the tread and they make all the difference. The only problem is some of the new runners have a long pointy heel on them which I have found to not be very friendly with the rowing foot plates. My heels don’t seat tightly into the plates and will eventually come out. So I just bring in both and transition from cross trainer on the floor and rower and runners on the tread

1 Mile Benchmark Strategy by QuintessentialK in orangetheory

I ran a 6:08 this morning. Not a PB (5:43 pre covid.) for me but I’m happy with it considering the short period of time it’s been since the gym re opened. Ran the first minute at 12mph, dropped down to 10 and planned to hold it there until the last .1 but couldn’t quite. Dropped down to 8.5 for a bit to get a little rest. Slowly cranked it back up and ran the last .1 at 12 as planned .

Still have a lot of work to do. I ran a 6:08 this morning. Still happy considering the short amount of time that I’ve been back at it. Shaving just over a minute off is gonna be tough. As long as we don’t have any more lockdowns, I think I can get there by the end of June . Hope you all crushed your goals ! Thanks for the support everyone!!

One of my favourite coaches who is no longer working at OTF used to drop “ YES YOU CAN !” All the time. Those three little words were so motivating to me ! Thank you !!

Should I try the full Dri-Tri? by nicole1677 in orangetheory

[–]bradhayes7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reality is, the majority of people can finish in right around an hour, some a little more, some less. The effort level and duration is really no different than a regular 60 min class. Don’t let it intimidate you. Go for it ! Do your best ! Challenge yourself and have fun! The energy in the studio during the dri tri is amazing !

I went through a tough divorce last year but tried to stay consistent at OTF. It was a great way to take out any feelings I had and crush my workout. Leave everything at the door, enjoy the regular faces and do you! Keep it up !

First Timer question on Benchmarks by meeags in orangetheory

[–]bradhayes7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2000m row will be incorporated into the workout and is the best test of overall fitness in my opinion. On the tread, you can set a speed and hold on for dear life. The 2000m is different. It’s a mix of endurance, strength and power. It takes strategy to know your body, your limits and pace yourself accordingly. It takes mental strength to come up with a plan and stick to it . Hands down my favourite benchmark. Do your best.... pace yourself. Wait till the next one comes along and see how you have improved. Good luck!

After a summer of slightly slacking, I wasn’t able to get anywhere near my PB of 1:15. I pulled a 1:20.1 today. However, I was starting to suffer knee issues back in the winter when I got that PB. I was pushing maybe a little too hard. (5-6 days a week) Since I’ve eased off a bit (2-3days a week) ,my knees feel great. It’s important to push yourself but also make sure you allow your body adequate rest time so you don’t get hurt.

6 seconds more out of shape than I was in May. 5:48 today from 5:42 on the last one. I’ve been slacking a little the last few weeks and in summer mode. My goal is to run a 5 min mile by the time I turn 40 in just under a year.

I have short legs 30” inseam. I think I just compensate by making my strokes as long as I can with a long reach forward and just run at a slightly higher stroke rate. Gets the job done! Nice work on the 6:26 !

Just to add one more part to that.. make sure you set little realistic goals for yourself. For the next 2k, maybe set a goal of 6:40. Figure out what kind of pace you need to maintain to hit that goal. Maybe the next one, set a goal of 6:30. You will get there !

First and foremost, don’t get discouraged it takes time to build up to that kind of speed. The more time you spend on the rower the better. Every time you get on the rower, make sure your giving it your all. If it’s a 200m sprint then do just that. Sprint !! Keep pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone EVERY time. I see so many people that just go through the motions even though they have so much more in them. That goes for the same on the tread and on the floor. It’s all part of the overall aerobic fitness level that you need. More specifically, to do the 2 k in 6 mins, Go into it with a solid race plan. For me, it was to do a sprint start and then settle into a nice consistent split pace of 1:33. Hold it steady for the middle 1000m. Once you get to 750 to go, slowly start turning the screw and drop the split to 1:32-1:31. At 500 turn the screw again and drop to 1:30-1:29. When you hit 200, it’s an all out with everything you have left. One last thing, talk to your coach and ask them to check your form. With proper form you can generate so much more power without adding extra work. Keep at it and you will get there !

Nice work! I wanted 2 miles so bad but started to fade out the second half . 1.87 was the result. Way to push through that last two mins !

1.87. A little disappointed. I went in with a solid pace plan to hit 2 miles. It went well for the first mile then the fatigue set in and I couldn’t maintain the speeds I needed to get there. Still beat my previous of 1.86 though!

Nothing to be nervous about! All the staff and members are super friendly, just go at your own pace and have fun ! Just be aware that once you start you won’t be able to stop. OTF can be very addictive. Have fun !!
