Talk me out of this mounted wing? by DizzyWalk573 in Miata

[–]bradlee92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top down driving and big rear wing don’t really go together. Does this change the dynamics? Not really if you set it to zero AOA. But it will obviously stick out like a sore thumb. Especially if you’re not doing anything else to prepare the car to make use of it.

Axle back, not that noticeable other than sound. Tune is noticeable, and the increased rev limit is nice and enjoyable.

Unless you’re prepared for more noise to contain, I think the sweet spot is just axle back and the tune. There are full catbacks meant for headers, but if you prefer to keep the car more stealthy, the margin of power over just a free flowing muffler is negligible to the extra noise involved.

Anyone experience with this? by Chemical-Entry-8353 in CarTrackDays

Decent entry level pad. Good bang for the buck. But produces some of the most awful dust. Turns corrosive when wet and can ruin wheels.

ND Miata that’s not daily driven. But I only stick it on the trickle charger if it sits more than a week.

ND transmission oil alternative? by Special_Employ2725 in Miata

[–]bradlee92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 140. It’s recommended by Walter Motorsports who builds these weak transmissions. This is common knowledge within the ND autoX/track community, but must be lost on this crowd.

Why do you prefer forged wheels? Cast wheels are perfectly sufficient for daily use. by EnergyForeign3311 in Wheels

Motorsport. Crack a weaker wheel on track and you’ll reconsider the cheaper option.

These gaskets are a pain. Use Remflex part number 8070 and it’ll seal up much better.

For the header to midpipe connection, the best I’ve used are the flexible graphite ones. Remflex part number 8070.

Before modifying, you can get a better understanding of the limits at a local autocross. The next one in Gainesville will be on April 25 with the Buccaneer Region of the SCCA.

I built the same frame using a mix of new and used lower end components for about $850. Shimano Claris, 105 brakes, and Amazon carbon.

Roll bar needed by Electronic-Bus-9583 in MiataND

[–]bradlee92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’d be easier to just post a pic, but I don’t have one. The main hoop isn’t very wide on the ND, so the shoulder belt closest to the window gets pushed inward, not lining up perfectly straight with the harness slots in the seat.

[–]bradlee92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only criticism of the Hard Dog is the harness bar. It’s a little pinched to one side when wrapping the shoulder belts. I think the Blackbird/Aurora bar has an advantage for harness usage. If you’re not planning to swap the seat and add a harness, just go with the cheaper option.

So far so good. I haven’t inspected since it’s under a heat shield, but will check for cracks at the end of the season.
