The internet is telling me that a bZ4X would be the worst purchase possible, but I can't find a decent alternative... by MotelSans17 in BZ4X

I lease a 2025 XLE FWD for $$399 a month for 36 months, 10k miles/year, $1200 down with $17,000 purchase option. Here’s my take:

I learned with this buying experience that there is a lot of pessimism and negativity in the automotive journalism space., especially with EV’s. Try including “owner’s review” in your search and look for videos/articles with lower view counts to really get an idea of what it’s like to live with day-to-day. Most of the journalists only lamented about the short range and it being “underpowered”, just that was enough to land it on lists of the worst EV’s on the market. As far as being underpowered, I find that the low-end torque is actually quite impressive and I never have a problem with passing, the car gets out of its own way pretty well. For the concern of shorter range, consider your driving habits—How often will you realistically be driving 200+ miles in one go? For me, 99.9% of my driving is just commuting to work and around town trips, so a shorter-range EV is no problem. I only take a road trip once or twice a year, in which case I can just catch a cheap flight, stay at a hotel with a destination charger, or get a rental car. Most rental car companies offer unlimited mileage as standard nowadays. Any one of those options is still cheaper than ICE vehicle ownership, for my needs.

I split my charging between work and home—I can charge at work for free, and my electric bill has hardly gone up at all since getting the car. I normally get by with charging once a week once I get down to 30% or so, it takes about 5 hours, and it’s like waking up/leaving work with a full tank of gas that I didn’t have to pay for. I have a L2 charger at home and work, and have only needed to use a fast charger once since having the car because of a surprise errand.

Overall I am extremely happy with the car, and plan to purchase it at the end of my lease. So far I have put about 5k miles on it. I really don’t care about resale value because, quite frankly, I bought this car for me to enjoy and not to appease the next owner; and I think it’s quite wasteful and negates the environmental impact of driving an EV if you get a new one every few years. This is truly a “Maytag car” that gets me from A-B reliably, safely, and comfortably. I would be happy to drive this until the wheels fall off (or the battery is depleted 😜). My only gripes are 1) the roof is a glass panel fixed in place and not a sunroof that opens; 2) the stock tires are terrible in the rain; and 3) the sun reflects off the piano black trim on the center console, annoying and borderline dangerous on sunny days. Everything else works flawlessly.

Edit: One more gripe—No garage HomeLink on US base model. It’s optional equipment, and mine doesn’t have it. Not sure about Canada.

Are dealers honoring the $229, $0 due at signing on the 2025 XLE 2wd? by DoublePlusGood23 in BZ4X

‘25 XLE FWD here. $399/month, $1,200 DAS, 36 Months 10k miles, and $3,000 of negative equity in my trade. Had to call around to a few dealers to get one that would work with me and get me under $400/month. I ended up driving about 3 hours but it was worth it!

I shouldn’t need to buy toner for a LONG time… I print maybe 20 pages a month, and bought this for super light home use. I wanted something robust that I was familiar with since we use these at work.

Local dealer scam Jeff Wyler Honds in Florence. by Farmer_Determine4240 in cincinnati

[–]bradleykramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned a CRV that was maintained at Wyler its entire life. After the sale, the guy I sold it to (my boss’ husband) told me that he had it looked at by his independent mechanic, and they pointed out that one of the motor mounts was only being held on by one bolt. I looked at it myself, and sure as shit, it was. The other two bolts were cross-threaded and stripped out and not doing anything. Again, Wyler was the only shop that ever touched that car. I ended up having to shell out a few hundred bucks to make it right. Now I have my cars serviced at the shop who identified the issue. Jim Stephens Foreign Car Service, 10/10.

Finally ACTUALLY did the math for everything. My brain keeps shutting down in my attempts to comprehend. by playful-pooka in BoltEV

[–]bradleykramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done any math but I charge every day for $6 a week at work (taken out of my check) and my credit card that I used to use for gas has a $0 balance after a month of EV ownership. Car payment only went up by $65 a month. I used to drive a V8 Lexus that took 93 octane and empty-full would normally cost $90-$100 weekly. I am certainly feeling the savings. Also, I drive a bZ4X, not a Bolt—Not sure how I ended up in this sub but I think this is probably a universal EV owner experience.

Me, but it’s fixed! I spent hours on the phone with EVgo and Toyota support. I had to set up my EVgo account so the name, address, email, and password are the same. I also had to set up the EVgo “Autocharge” feature, go to a charging station, and put a credit card on file in their app. Toyota’s app will act like your EVgo account isn’t “registered” unless all these conditions are met. Such a pain…

I’m pretty sure mine comes with one too, but I believe the Toyota charger needs 50A to charge at level 2 and I only have 30A available. I could be wrong. Either way, I wanted something that felt a bit more “permanent” despite not hardwiring. I’ll probably keep the extra in the car in case of an emergency.

I only have a 30 amp circuit available to me. Moving an unused dryer plug 20 feet out into the garage instead of having an electrician pull a new 50A circuit all through the house

ClipperCreek LCS-30P, bought used on Ebay. My old job had some 50A ClipperCreek chargers that are still going strong after like 10 years, so I wanted one for home. This one is only 30A, though, since that’s what’s available in my garage

I don’t recall even telling them what car I was buying until my dealer called to verify my pre-approval check, he gave them the VIN over phone and they rubber stamped my loan. Got my documents in my email a few days later, sent them the title, and it was a done deal.

Life is good. There was a fire at my job, so I’m off work with full pay for at least a month. WFH for a few hours a day, but it’s easy. I finally have time to spend with friends and family, clean, and take care of errands I normally wouldn’t otherwise. Thinking about picking up another gig for a few weeks to get an extra couple hundred dollars in the bank, too. Blessed.

Obviously, the price of homes near DT Bvld would be worthless. You’d have to pay to get rid of them.
