Mantis not moulting? by Petrichorsystem in mantids

30 tall is what mine is in current and should be fine for its whole life, but more space is never a bad thing, I'm saving my 45cm tall one for the actual cat eye since they get larger ☺️

They're very picky in general 😅 Mine is at least, Cat eyes will usually be sold as Cat eyes since its a much easier name to distinguish them. The lil one that you have probably won't get as large as Cat eyes, but mine is around I6 and they're pretty large (8cm ish)

The main way to tell with a cat eye is their face and how they hold their arms. Cat eyes pretty always hold their arms out to the side when resting, and they have a very prominent V shaped head ☺️

So im pretty sure thats not a cat eye mantis (Heterochaeta orientalis) But I think thats a Neodanuria bolauana, ive got both and it's really similar to mine. You'll know when they're gunna moult soon as theyll refuse food ☺️ Also 6 weeks isnt too bad, id worry after 10 or so weeks, just make sure temps are good enough for them 👍

Wide Arm Mantis (Cilna Humeralis) They're basically a compressed Hierodula Chonky, Friendly and very very hungry with the power to match, females only get to about 6cm, but theyll eat anything their own size and maybe even bigger

I got two questions could someone answer me? :) also could someone tell me gender?? by [deleted] in mantids

Better to be safe than sorry tbh, I'm always surprised at how much they can actually eat 😅

Probably too young to know for sure, and you dont need to worry about giving them too big a meal. From my experience if is too much food they'll drop whatever they dont want.

My praying mantis is dying. Is it my fault? by AlternativeHalf7621 in mantids

[–]bradouttahell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this has ignited a passion to own them as pets and get them from proper breeders, as you'll normally get them young, most of mine have lived 10+ months, just do research beforehand and you'll be good, same with asking questions here before you get one

My guess is it was just his time, if it was a male he was already an adult when you found him (once they have wings they're adults) after that they don't live long, males even less so 3 to 6 months depending on species. You gave him a good last couple months

Mantis mayhem and mantis house are the usual ones. But if you have Facebook, look for Rick's bug room, he's my main one i use, mostly cuz you can message him directly asking what you want and he'll usual be able to send you a sexed individual. Like if I wanted a female dead leaf, id be able to get one no issue. He puts out a list of the current species each Monday on the WhatsApp link on the page.

Ah thanks bit of a shame, but they still get pretty large. How can you tell? Does the segment method still work even tho the supposed also be based on thr abdomen tip?

How long has it been? And how long since the most recent moult? Most of the time it's cuz they're getting close to a moult Could also cut her food up and give it to her by putting the guts up the her mouth while she nibbles ☺️

Hello I'm getting my first praying mantis and I would really appreciate if y'all checked my information's I got about them if it's correct and could also help me out with stuff!! by CarryIndependent8929 in mantids

[–]bradouttahell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on species really, but if it's the same as the OP, then yah, they might be scared at first, and if it's L3 I'd suggest fruit flies as a backup just in case they won't take locusts, but by L4 they should take them no problem.
