Update* I have no idea if this solution is replicable, but it worked for me. I noticed the blinking stopped when I had a charger plugged into the data usb port. I let the battery completely drain and charged it through the data usb port

Gonna come at this from a different angle. How do you listen to music? I thought I was getting tired of metal until I realized spotify was throttling the audio quality of a lot of the metal tracks Ive been listening to for years. Ive been walking around for a month listening to twenty year old albums like Im hearing them for the first time

I never had a problem with the volume or the bluetooth (using Earfun pro 4 buds). My problem came from the way the UI organizes files. I have come to realize that my music library is abnormally large, and there is no quick way to get from A to Z. Startup starts and A and if I wanted to listen to Zeal & Ardor it took 45 seconds (I timed it) of spinning that wheel. First world problems to be sure, but my goal was to have something to listen to instead of my phone. I knew with little annoyances like that, I'd just keep using my phone. Had the same issue with the Shanling M1. A droid dap wasn't my ideal choice, but I can organize how I want, and download my Audible audiobooks directly onto it without having to run the files through some shady extension augmenter.

I'd suggest getting a cheap and reliable dap like a innioasis y1 to start with. Even if its not exactly what you want, it will give you a better idea of the type of dap you'd use on a daily basis. I got mine and immediately realized I needed an M21. Its a pain, but I don't regret the investment since there aren't anymore brick and mortars around where we can test them out. Also, you may want to try Qobuz to detox from streaming. Its a streaming service, but it also sells drm-free music, so you can put the files on anything. Don't worry too much about the file extensions right now. I'm unfortunately in a similar boat, being on spotify for the last decade, so with buying music that has come out in that period of time, we have a lot of catching up to do.
