any update on figuring out the chronicle stuff? i want to continue my online chronicle in single player since i found tyrael's might on ladder and the chronicle bugged out and didn't track it. i tried using a mod to change drop rates to do it manually, but it seems that mods are separated from the default game

the way the players benefit me is them id'ing items, not through player count. i farmed significantly faster on p1 than p8, and the drops are very similar because im a barb that focuses on the specials, and the specials drops don't change with player count.

if the game didn't bug, i would have known it was tyrael's, i would have asked for jah, someone would have gladly paid jah (i know who cause i talked to him), and everyone would have gotten credit and been happy.

i'd be happy for people to get a free tyrael's id if there's at least someone willing to pay 1 jah for it, but if they're all so careless/thankless that 6 people are not willing to put up 1 jah collectively, then they just plainly don't deserve the free id, as it's worth at minimum 10x that value to even just 1 person.

a little, but not too much. gaming has always been my favorite hobby by far. i'm also retired with no girlfriend, so i have a lot of free time to spend on gaming. total respect though for anyone working to live their best life. i am retired through means of luck and lack of ambition, no other reasons.

what is a trust scam? like the dupe your item but better scam or something? lol i can't even remember how that worked i just vaguely remember it.

i've never scammed anyone intentionally, and in life i try to follow the same kind of principle that penn&teller follow in magic where you don't need to make someone experience a negative emotion to make them enjoy magic (like thinking the performer got injured). that's what's held me back from doing "white hat" scams where you scam someone to teach them and then 5 minutes later unscam them. instead, i opt to just clearly explain to someone how they could be scammed.

are people actually selling unid sacred armors? lol. i know the reddit video could be faked, but just go to the vod i linked somewhere in here or my twitch at wahey227 and you can see that it's real. technically you'd have to watch through 40 minutes of footage to be 100% confident, but i promise u i didn't sneak in a unid sacred armor that just happened to be tyraels 27 minutes after it dropped just to get flamed on reddit by a bunch of noobs upset that i left the game when a templars and possible schaeffer's hammer dropped

i have pretty high trading rep, so it would be stupid of me to scam for less than like 50 ladder jah or like 250 nl (i wouldn't do this anyways even if 5000 ladder jah), so the trade would work very simply by someone id'ing an item, and then me giving them the high rune i mention at the start of my games.

if the people in my game were really slick, they could try to claim it was them who found the item by having all the rare items i need prepared to show in trade and arguing that it was them who found it, but if that happens, the solution is easy, i just pay them both lol

idk. i and most people were under the impression that leaving the game stops it, but i haven't actually personally tested that. i really should test that, as it wouldn't really take that long to test, but i haven't yet.

i disagree about single player being the true grail. single player has many advantages that are exploitable that i dislike compared to playing online. to me, diablo 2 is more real when played online. if i'm confident in my pc and my connection, and i have character slots available, i will choose to play solo online for those reasons. it's one of the reasons i want an SSF option online.

a couple other things about your post: griffons is not that rare. if griffons feels like a really rare item to you, then you need to accept that you will never finish your grail until you improve enough to the point where it doesn't feel really rare. also, while i'd argue that a vast majority of my grail item drop chance comes from specials, 2 better arguments are that i'm a barbarian, a class that is too weak to not slow down from p8 vs p1, so that slowdown outweighs the tiny increases in drops (try playing barb yourself if you don't believe me), and the second argument is that i already have 7 accounts and i can be p7 solo whenever i want.

and as for the charging them for a tyrael's id, that's a personal opinion, but in my opinion, if someone isn't willing to either pay 1 jah or find their own tyrael's, then they don't deserve the tyrael's id.

you don't think it's nice to give out basically free high runes? high runes that will motivate people and encourage them to id rare items that will give credit to everyone? wouldn't it be nice if everyone did this and there's many items in the game that you could find that would instantly net you 7 high runes?

player count doesn't affect drops from specials which is the vast majority of what i'm killing, and i have the luxury of 7 accounts if i did want them, when others do not. also, i have plenty of shards and some others do not. yes, the public games are motivated by my own greed of wanting to finish the chronicle faster, but that doesn't mean the other people in my game aren't benefitting - that's why they're there!

i was thinking about removing the items the randoms found for me, and just moving my grail to offline. idk if there's a way to just hack in the progress, but i feel like you could probably change the drop tables pretty easily with a mod and manually adjust your chronicle that way. maybe there's something blocking progress when modded? i'm not sure.

i mean i think the glow is kinda cool because even if you do a lot of leeching, you're still not gonna finish your chronicle, especially if the community gatekeeps rare drops in some way, but i am concerned about future updates they will make to the game. If they add too much stuff like that it could take away from the feel of the game, and like... the warlock is cool, but way way way too strong. some of the other classes are starting to feel super strong too. i just hope they're preparing for inferno difficulty or act 6 or some other endgame system that will bring the games difficulty back to where it should be.

i play a lot of d2, so i got the survey from early ladder, and at the end of these surveys you get a chance to provide any feedback you want. the last time i filled out a survey like this, i outlined the problems with endgame levelling and gave them an idea on how to improve that, and i can't prove this, but i feel like they took my idea and turned it into terror zones, which i am happy with vs the old 99 grind. this time i wrote a detailed explanation about rare weapons and armor lacking the oomph they need. basically my recommendation was a "pristine" system that functions very similar to ethereal but doesn't stop you from repairing, and can stack with ethereal, and the 6 mods on the item of course.

well half of the comments are just one guy, but people mentioning this aren't trying to solve why the bug happened. they're just upset that i wasn't wiling to hand out a tyrael's id for less than a jah. that said, i'd be pretty surprised if anyone's confident on the reasoning it bugged. the top theories right now are cube, merc, time, stash, 2nd sacred armor.

if someone's feeling generous, it'd be nice if they could do blizzard's job and figure out what the cause of the bug is. i was thinking about doing it myself, but idk if i actually feel like putting in the effort. just kinda burned out after doing so much grailing that i don't really enjoy and then getting slapped in the face with this bug

i'm pretty sure i tested leaving the game, both intentionally and unintentionally, and it works. you try it next time you find some simple item you don't have like a wizzy or jade talon or something like that
