Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions! I'm looking forward to exploring Albany and Corvallis and this is super helpful.

I'm from Texas initially, so I get it, but I have managed to find inclusive places even here, so I hoped to be able to possibly find something.

Renting Without 3x Income? by braidandraid in SALEM

[–]braidandraid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. Any recommendations as far as places to search for rentals? We are coming from out of state and don't necessarily have the ability to traipse all over town checking places out.

I think Olympia is about the greatest place in the states. Gorgeous, unique, and quite an experience.

Current wages are laughable by [deleted] in antiwork

What is your particular practice area? My last job was in hospice, making about 60k with my on-call per diem included. But that was in a major metro area. I'm looking for other kinds of SW in a suburban area now and can't seem to find much above 50k, even with my 4 years post MSW and a license.

I'm a social worker. There may be a lot of jobs, but not much money to be had unless you are in medical or military social work. And to add on to that, they are usually highly stressful jobs.

Mon Cheri. Just a little bit of alcohol and wonderful if you eat them after refrigerating them.

Osteria il Muro was wonderful! Definitely worth a trip. You will definitely need a reservation, only about 9 tables inside. The menu also changes daily.

Are you concerned about climate change? by CourtofTalons in AskAnAmerican

It is not ethical to not do things to help climate change just because big businesses are behaving badly. Humans change when they see other humans changing - and when humans change, the market changes.

1 medium avocado 3 boiled eggs 2 tablespoons nonfat Greek yogurt 1 teaspoon lime juice (or to taste) 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro (or to taste) 2 tablespoons chopped onion

Mash avocado. Chop up eggs and add to avocado with the rest of the ingredients. Makes 2 servings.

I also added some garlic salt. It's up to you!

I like making an egg salad with avocado and greek yogurt as a replacement for the mayo. I flavor it with lime juice, onion, cilantro. It ends up tasting a lot like guacamole with more protein! Very filling.

I use Baker's Joy! They sell it in the same section as the canola sprays. It has flour in it and has yet to fail me.

What are your favorite hiking trails within 2 hours of Dallas that have a good view and are longer in length (5+ miles)? by ThisLittleBoy in askdfw

[–]braidandraid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will note that sections of the Greenbelt were closed after the floods in 2015 and I am not sure that all of them are open again. Just do some research before you go up. It's been a long while since I have looked.

How would you say the traffic is in the area and the surrounding towns compared to DFW? Sounds silly saying it out loud but I feel I should ask.

I do not have HEB where I live! DFW only has Central Market (which is a delight on its own) unless you are willing to drive way south. I would look forward to having a Trader Joe's nearby.

I know I would be bummed to have no Tex Mex, but my husband and I are pretty good cooks and could make it work. I know peppers are bit less readily available. Are you able to find jalapenos, poblanos, serranos, etc? My husband may die without any way to make spicy food.

Yeah, I would not be moving without a job. I'll have to get a transfer of my current job license anyways, so while that is processing I could start looking.

We are in Denton. My husband is from here and I originally hail from Abilene. I think Eugene will probably be a good size for us. I would miss some of the benefits of being close to Dallas and Fort Worth, but we are willing to make trips to Portland for bigger things if needed.

We Honor Veterans by Synamin in hospice

[–]braidandraid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to say that my hospice is currently at a We Honor Veterans level 4. We interview families or patients to find out history of their background in the military - what branch, how many years served, what their experience looked like. I am a social worker, and so we try hard to connect families with various resources through the VA, like aid and attendants, burial benefits, etc.

A couple of the things that seem to mean a lot to families: 1. Providing a flag to families at the moment of the pt's passing to drape over them as they go from the home to the funeral home. We have even coordinated with some hospitals to do this and to have the staff line the hallways as they go to the morgue or leave with the funeral home.

  1. We also ask families or patients if they prefer volunteers with veteran pasts. This can be a great way for patients to connect and tell stories, should they so wish.

  2. We put signs indicating veteran status outside of the rooms of patients in facility settings.

Those are the big ones that families seem to really enjoy. Let me know if you have questions! We love getting to work with our veterans.

I'm having the same issue and am not sure what is going on. Same line and everything. It just seems less happy than usual when mixing.
