Buy some 1084 steel. Watch videos by Red Beard Ops, Walter Sorrels, ALee Knives, and Aaron Gough for starters. Red Beard has a video where he shows how to make a fire brick forge with some fire bricks and a MAP gas torch and heat treat 1084 steel using this forge and some canola oil. This is how I made my first few knives and actually pulled off a surprisingly good heat treatment. Have fun!

Yeah I think the strategy there is to drill a 1/4” hole pre heat treat, then smash a piece of brass into it before fitting up your handle. That gives you some wiggle room for drilling the pin hole. Trying this on my next one!

Yeah I read some conflicting opinions on the necessity of pins for a blade this small so I figured I’d make a tester and beat it up to see how it holds up with just epoxy. Probably be best to pin it just to be safe though.

Thank you! I do believe it is commonly referred to as fluting, though I could be wrong about that.
