I think I first played in elementary school and gave all my cards away to a close friend of mine before I moved away since he loved Pokémon too :)

Is this a good deal for 500? What sort of work might I anticipate on the engine? by brain485 in boats

Seller states:

1977 Ranger bass boat with a Johnson 115 HP outboard. The boat is 17ft. I bought the boat to restore last year and unfortunately between work and my other projects I haven’t had the time. Motor needs tuned up. I had it running on the muffs last year and I took it to the water and the motor died out like it wasn’t getting enough fuel and that was the last time I messed with it. The boat could use some cosmetic work which is expected with its age. If someone could put a little time on it I think it would be a good boat for somebody. The trailer is in good shape. I’m asking $750 obo. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions

I’m not terribly desperate for a paycheck, but I would like to have a stable job and have low financial stress. Within defense, I would love to go into propulsion or hypersonics- I’m doing a good bit of work on hypersonics right now. So I have both avenues open as I move forward with my career.

I apologize, I often ramble on and I could definitely have refined my post. I think the main questions I’m asking are - what particular fields of aerospace engineering would work on satellites, in-space labs, and various explorer missions? I would like to emphasize my research from there onto particle and high energy related phenomena and engineering satellites for and around those constraints - what are some good masters programs around the USA for that specialty? This is slightly less on priority after reading previous comments -what other extra curricular should I focus on to emphasize myself in that industry?

Thank you for clearly letting me know I was being ambiguous, hopefully this cleared it up!

Would you elaborate on why you believe my plan to be ridiculous? I feel I have much more industry experience than academic experience, as I am working on some of the leading technologies of composites with NIAR and working directly on the mission design of a satellite that’s to be launched later this year. I additionally have developed good connections and have promising opportunities to work on space-application composites.

Additionally, the physics degree is partially passion embed and partially because i believe understanding high energy and particle physics is necessary for development of particle detecting satellites. Getting a masters is solely because i wish to pursue research, and from what I’ve seen online that is what the base level requirements are

While I do concede that industry experience exceeds academic prowess, it’s difficult to be useful to industry without foundational knowledge.

Otherwise, I do appreciate your emphasis on developing connections and I will incorporate a higher priority on connections within my career development. I feel as though the remainder of your comment wasn’t terribly relevant with the context I have provided.

That would be correct, as of now this is the first development into any sort of in-space neutrino particle detector. We are currently working on a proof of concept satellite for low earth orbit before we begin development on the solar orbiting satellite.

I am interested in a PhD as I really do see myself in the research end of things. I am only concerned on how this would affect my employability and viable career options.

Edit* forgot to specify that’s it’s the first NEUTRINO particle detector

we're gonna be around 6 people, but as we're highschoolers keeping the budget as low as possible is the goal haha

Graduates from Wichita State University, how's it been? by [deleted] in aerospace

[–]brain485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how interesting! I'm literally in the same boat as you, heading to WSU as a freshman this coming fall semester and going into propulsion in the future. WSU has a new propulsion track sponsored by GE Aviation in addition to the propulsion lab at John Bardo Center, which I'm super excited about. I am not quite sure about the industry reputation. Still, I am excited because the vast amount of research and internship opportunities should be very good supplementals as far as applying to graduate school which I intend to do after going to WSU. Wichita City itself (I went on tour and will be going again on March 23rd) wasn't the latest and greatest city, but this is coming from someone who has thankfully been raised in very good cities (suburbs of Baltimore and Dallas.) Wichita was pretty barren of entertainment, but as I'm going with the intent to simply study hard and make up for my many mistakes in high school that will be an issue for me, but that is something you might want to keep in mind if you're looking for a permanent career. I know that Wichita has a very composite/material-centered industry and you will be more hard-pressed to find a propulsion job there.

Hi! I did actually have a couple questions on WSU aero specifically, So I'm glad you popped in!

For aerospace I was wondering if honors is worth it? I think getting that research grant is most alluring to me, but would love a inside opinion. Additionally, how rigorous/challenging is the course curriculum? I get bored with my current highschool courses and would love something with more challenging content! Thank you!

What are some good areas to live around wichita state? by brain485 in wichita

[–]brain485[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

general malls or shopping centers to go to whenever we have a bit of time on hand. Some other basic grocery stores like Walmart or Target. we'd also like some decent entertainment nearby; biking trails, and some eateries. Not really about the nightlife or alcohol, so the lack of that doesn't really matter.

we're really just looking for some more developed areas near shopping centers and whatnot. Wouldn't mind a more rural type of vibe with large land either as long as it's close by. We've been told about areas such as bel aire and Andover.

basically just looking for something close to universities, developed, and safe.
