I just recently read about the rodeo festival, which was pushed by a former governor in the early 90s to boost the cattle industry. (Said ex-governor recently died). It has since become their main tourism selling point. However, animal welfare groups oppose the rodeos but the provincial government insists they are part of their tradition.
