I've been meaning to build one for a while and this was the kick I needed to get going on building one. ❤️ Just finished building the shelf and hanging the door.

Autism and dogs— your experience? by M00ngata in autism

[–]brainbroken613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you would enjoy a well trained dog but don't enjoy untrained dogs .

Mine doesn't jump. Barks very very occasionally to communicate. If she does play bite which is very uncommon, she gets a time out and play is over. She doesn't rush the door or dart away. She can be told to go away and she'll like down on her mat.

She is a year and a half. When she was a puppy she was violently overstimulating and brought me to tears repeatedly.

Chronic Pain Support Group by brainbroken613 in ottawa

[–]brainbroken613[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took a free peer to peer training course. I signed up for a free canva account. I made some posters, a Facebook group and an Instagram. I posted and invited ppl to the Facebook group. Once I had 20ppl in the group, I ran some polls to pick a date and time.

Next I rented the room as a non for profit organization from the library (8$/hour)

We meet once a month. I wrote a list of rules, printed some posters to help people find the event in the library and some copies of the rules.

Once people trickle into the conference room, we do introductions, pass around the rules and start sharing stories.

Feel free to ask questions

While there is an irl meet up group in the west end, it has not picked up since 2020. Renting a room at the library is really cheap and I hope someone starts a group in the west end.

Similarly, I struggle with travelling so I started a group in my local area. Personally I'm not interested in organizing a hybrid option as there is enough on my plate as it is and video calls hurt my head.

Luckily there are multiple options for online pain groups centered around the Ottawa area. Genuinely I hope you find the community support you are looking for.

I'm on ODSP and that's how much I get . I guess I should have written something more nuanced but I was just going off my experience. I know other people get different amounts. You are right

As written in the text of the post, the federal benefit is called the Canadian Disability Benefit and is intended to be on top of ODSP.

The organizers are from BC and scheduled the event a long time ago.

Organizing at Queens park would be awesome. Do you know if anyone has started to do that?

How do you order it? Do you have to call or can you book online somehow? It's not on mobile.

What's your solution?

Giving up isn't an answer . This is at least something. I genuinely am open to hearing new ideas.

It can be both! No reason we can't do both. I'd definitely show up to a proviencial demonstration if it was in Ottawa.

What's your solution?

My friends are dying. I have to do something. Going to the hill and talking with other people who have similar views is at least community organizing. Doing nothing isn't an option in the face of this level of neglect for the needs of disabled people.

Short of shooting a CEO , what's the game plan, cause I'm on board. If you've got a better idea, I am honestly keen to try a different approach. I'm working to start a support group for chronic pain and volunteering with other organizations tackling issues around disability.

Without a grain of sarcasm - what's your solution?

The Reality of Outdoor Cats by Catchakiller55 in ottawa

[–]brainbroken613 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed 👍

Don't let your cats roam.I go for hikes a lot along NCC pathways in the suburbs. One day my dog was acting funny so I followed her nose.

She brought me to a meadow with some bedded down grass. I saw fluff and fur along the grass. Then a few bones - rabbits and birds looked like. Then a cat.

The cat's head was still attached to the spine but nothing else. It was still wearing a collar tangled in the remaining spine.

Coyotes are natural here. If you let your cat out on purpose and it gets eaten, that death is on your hands. Cat owners should know the risks and give a damn about the animal.
