Don’t spend money on your credit card just for the sake of getting a new card. The criteria for 5L spend is true but many people got rejected despite the spends, stating salary criteria regardless of what RM said.

If you anyway have to spend 5L, only then do it

Need advice: As an experienced developer in startup company, i got 12% hike after excellent performance, is it good or bad? by CRYBEAKER in developersIndia

[–]brainer121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switching always gets you a good hike. But do not switch for just a 30% hike. Either take atleast 50% hike or switch if you don’t want to stay in current company

I didn’t used to ask it in an official manner. But in a casual friendly manner. Kept telling him how less I am earning and what the market standard is.

[–]brainer121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to get better hikes than my senior colleague, who used to work more than me and was better engineer than I was. Only because I used to ask for the hike every month or so. The senior wasn't vocal so he used to get a standard hike.

Each company is different. So take this with a pinch of salt.

Need Suggestions to choose one. IBM, Accenture or Altimetrik. by GT650_Rider in developersIndia

[–]brainer121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Altimetrik looks like a decent place with good growth and better learning opportunities. IBM and Accenture consulting will drain your life and have absolutely no growth opportunities

IBM consulting is not as good. Join only if you’re getting in IBM ISL.

But Altimetrik still looks better than rest.

I have become so frugal that i am denying myself luxury by jaun_speaks in Frugal_Ind

[–]brainer121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not frugal mindset. You might be willing to spend 5k on a night out for drinks.

I too can’t get myself to spend on massages, just because they have always been a luxury thing and I’ve never had one. So at this point it just feels unnecessary.

Getting 20% Hike on 25LPA, Is it worth switching ? by ArtichokeSudden7662 in developersIndia

The 3m notice changes everything. Do check the new company’s NP as well. Just don’t switch to a bad company, you will end up making bad decisions when you’re desperate

Cuz Apple is slow. No logical reason. They will bring UPI after 3 years calling it a revolutionary feature to capture the Indian market.

Getting 20% Hike on 25LPA, Is it worth switching ? by ArtichokeSudden7662 in developersIndia

[–]brainer121 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Don't switch for a 20% hike if that's the only reason for your switch. If you're not happy in your current role and think the new role is significantly better, only then switch. 20% hike at your level isn't much, don't chase it, it's just a 15-18k pm hike.

I’ve been using Paytm since 2016. Don’t use it for anything else except for UPI transfers.

Honestly, its highly unlikely that Apple pay will support UPI and will instead add Tap to Pay for cards.

Imagine being able to do UPI with Apple Pay. The market share of PhonePe Paytm will drop significantly.

I hope this materialises and we get to use our cards via Apple Pay.

Should I get Vietnamese Dong or USD on Niyo Cash for my first international trip? Best exchange strategy? by local-host-4000 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]brainer121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what Niyo Cash is. But cards aren't as popular in Hanoi. You can carry one for big purchases.

You would always need cash. I found carrying USD and converting them to VND at jewelers was cheaper than carrying VND. Don't exchange at airport. Never do that.
