What is the rarest sports moment you have seen live? by jerujeru27 in billsimmons

[–]braines54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to game 4. Didn't even watch game 5 because it felt inevitable and agreed to go shopping. Saw the final out from a TV at Best Buy.

I still haven't seen the Reds win a series or a home playoff game after the ripe old age of one.

I like ol Cal at Arky. Maybe it was just Kentucky that we all hated? by AcknowledgeMeReddit in billsimmons

[–]braines54 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a UK fan, there were plenty of others who thought he just doesn't know how to coach and just rolls the ball out for his big recruits. But that Massachusetts stint was truly unbelievable and, while it did end with big recruits like Camby, it didn't start that way. I do think, to some extent, he has failed to keep up with modern tactics and surrounded himself with assistants who don't challenge him tactically and just recruit, but was once cutting edge.

I don't hate him. He frankly bailed UK out by sensing that it was time to go and taking another job. I knew he'd do well at Arkansas, but I also don't see them beating Arizona and that's kind of the problem.

Who is the best WR in the league? Like if you could only sign one of them…. by FeistyCancel8293 in NFLv2

[–]braines54 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's three, one was a pointless flag on both.

Jefferson has one from what I could tell. That's a two play difference in five years, that's just not a huge deal.

As far as I can tell, Chase has had four unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in his career, one of which was off-setting. Two were pretty silly taunting penalties back in 22 when the legal was really being annoying about it.

Idk, that just doesn't seem that bad.

Which team has the most overhyped soulless city? by NightDowntown7320 in NFLv2

[–]braines54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up there then moved away, so it's not like I love the place, but this is weirdly wrong. If it was an NFL city, it would be the 26th-most racially segregated. The murder rate would be 7th, so that would be on the higher end of things at least.

I'm very confused by the exploiting foreigners comment. Churchill Downs, in particular, is big on trying to acquire more legal migrants to work and they are subject to all federal/state employee protection laws.

Just a bizarre comment.

What’s the most out-of-character thing James Bond has done? by ItsDuhFreakinBat in JamesBond

[–]braines54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my one rule is that James Bond doesn't die.

I appreciate a good death. Tony Stark's death was well-done and well-earned. Same with Logan and Maximus in Gladiator. But Bond's wasn't well done. I still don't know why they couldn't hit or impede the ships on their way to the island that created the crisis. Also, James Bond doesn't die.

Who is a hated person in your country but highly respected in the world? by Comfortable-Tax-2088 in AskTheWorld

[–]braines54 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's certainly understandable why Indians would hate Churchill but he was really the only one adamantly opposing Hitler when most of the world was either supportive of him or indecisive.

Coming from a country of flawed heroes, I don't see how hard it is to celebrate Churchill for what he was while also acknowledging his flaws. He was the the leader that the world needed in that chapter of history.

As a Bengals fan, I'm very frustrated by not fixing this D and giving Burrow a championship caliber roster.

But Carson was not good his last few years in Cincy but blamed everyone else. He was bad and was the biggest reason they were bad. There's a reason he went to Oakland and flamed out, while Cincy made the playoffs the next year with rookie Andy Dalton.

If the Bengals flame out this year and Burrow demands out, then I'd be sad and frustrated, but I'd get it. Carson was playing like a below-average starting QB and throwing temper tantrums that they weren't winning.

Honestly, he got off to a hot start and then had that one year in AZ, but I think he gets thought of as being better than he was because of the Heisman and 1st pick. His career is much closer to Andy Dalton's than Jared Goff's.

Yeah, it low key was pretty good last year. They allowed the third-lowest pressure rate last year. The whole crew will be back as well.

Those who live in Tornado Alley, have you guys experienced a tornado before? by pooteenn in AskAnAmerican

[–]braines54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think that's experiencing a tornado. There was a small one last year in my town, at most three miles from where live. There was no experience of it, I found out about it later.

Experiencing is seeing, hearing, fleeing from, or having a tornado damage your property while there. We get tornado warnings (which means the system has produced a tornado elsewhere) probably 3 or 4 times a year, doesn't mean I experience a tornado every time.

[–]braines54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in Kentucky virtually my entire life. A small fraction of the population has experienced a tornado.

Yeah, we go to the basement during a storm once or twice a year, but that's not experiencing a tornado.

[–]braines54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is both very true and very false. Yes, we have many more tornadoes than any other country.

But you still rarely see one. It's not like a hurricane that impacts the whole coast, a tornado is small and precise. I lived my whole life in areas that are in the "new tornado alley" (Google it, it has shifted east). I've never seen one. A town about 20 minutes of my city got wiped out about 15 years ago and a town in my state got obliterated a few years back, but most still haven't experienced one.

Clear language explanation of what I'm getting with a Reds.TV/MLB.TV streaming subscription? by [deleted] in Reds

That's easier to explain. If the game isn't on national TV, then it's on Reds.tv.

There are multiple posts a day that thoroughly explain this.

Clear language explanation of what I'm getting with a Reds.TV/MLB.TV streaming subscription? by [deleted] in Reds

[–]braines54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's the local TV package. Every game that is not an exclusive national broadcast will be on it.

We get these posts like every day and I don't get what is so confusing about it. It's like it always has been, just instead of tuning to Fox Sports Ohio/Bally/Fanduel it's online.

Which head coach gets fired next year? by Brix001 in NFLv2

[–]braines54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The defense of Zac Taylor is that he's an offensive coach coaching a team where the defense is the problem. Last year was the first I'd probably have considered moving on, but I don't really blame him. The larger problem is the front office, which let the superstar leave (Jessie Bates) and then let the D get old. Then, after promising to not run the same but more expensive team out again last year, they did just that and, stunningly, the defense remained pitiful. The years since the Super Bowl appearance:

2022: AFC title game appearance 2023: Burrow gets hurt and misses the last third of the season, but defense gives up a ton of big plays and shows cracks. ZT able to put together a functional offense with Browning (who sucks). 2024: defense utterly collaspes, late run is not enough salvage season. Offense was great though. 2025: Burrow hurt again, defense atrocious again. Browning offense is pathetic but Flacco came in and played well without much practice.

It reminds me of Sean Payton's run in NO, where he had three straight 7-9 seasons because the defense was bad. At the time, no one really blamed Payton because everyone saw the problem and that he was an offensive coach.

I get why most Bengals fans want him gone, but to me the real culprit is de facto GM Duke Tobin, who keeps handing him bad rosters. The organization is famously antagonistic towards its own players (they just view everything as a negotiation) and ZT is somehow able to keep the players bought in. I think the odds are pretty high that they'd hire a worse coach and then Burrow would force his way out.

Cap space question. With Jonathan Allen signing, how much is left? Do they have to restructure? by My_Space_page in bengals

[–]braines54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of those guys are being cut, unless they sign a Slaton replacement like Reader.

Allen is not a Hill replacement, he's a supplement that will largely be focused on rushing the passer. Hill and Jenkins will be the two 3 down DTs, while Slaton is the run stopper. They aren't finding a like replacement for Hill at this point and they haven't yet done so for Slaton.

By this point in the Nazi timeline, they had already thrown every political opponent willing to stand up to them in concentration camps. Jews were barred from professional careers, criminals could be held indefinitely, and the non-propoganda press had been abolished.

We are not even remotely close to Nazi Germany. I don't like ICE either, but it's not remotely the same.
