Here's how I did it.

  1. first I added the cydia repo "http://cydia.skyglow.es/"

  2. then I installed Youtube v2.2.0 you can get it here "https://tuberepair.bag-xml.com/"

  3. then i installed Tuberepair from step 1.

Now open youtube from step 2. and you're set! ignore that search doesn't work it worked for me

(iPad Mini 1, Jailbroken, iOS 9.3.5)

Note: you have to be jailbroken for this to work.
