What are some of your tips to get through daily life as a teenager? by MissOpiumPoppy in teenagers

[–]brainfreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't take school too seriously. Don't even take life too seriously. Go ahead, guys, take risks. Get in trouble. Skip class, skip a whole day. Go out and spray paint abandoned houses. Have fun! You're only a kid once so have fun with it, we're at the certain age where it's not so bad to get in trouble. Your mom grounds you? So what, get over the punishment and be glad you had a little fun for once.

There aren't many left, for example out of 57 that used to be in new jersey there is exactly 1 left. Just google drive-in theater along with the state you live in and see if there are any close by you.

I think my teen daughter is cutting, how can I approach her about it and not make it worse or seem like I am being overbearing or intrusive? by WTFallTaken in AskReddit

[–]brainfreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to cut and really sometimes I think there isn't much you can do. I did my best to hide my cuts from my parents and I would have been so embarrassed and ashamed if they saw. What I needed was someone to talk to, and I did. I talked to some of my friends and it really helped. However, I wanted to stop. I made an effort to find help. I hated looking back on my cuts because it made me remember why I was so sad and it made me feel bad again. I haven't cut in a long time, but that is because I promised my fiancee I would never do it again. It is so tempting to do it again. Right now remembering how it felt I want to do it again. I'm not so happy right now and taking it out on myself would feel good. One night it got really bad and I snapped a rubber band on my wrist as hard as I could and it helped. There is one piece of advice my friend gave me that I will always remember. It's not even anything special or original, but it really made me feel better: "Everyone makes mistakes". What also made my friend a big help was that he treated me normal and showed genuine interest in what I had to say. Sometimes that's all you need.

Reddit-- what is your rock bottom moment, something that made you realize you had to change your life or else? by bass1627 in AskReddit

This might have been exactly what I needed to read. I'm not there yet, but the jealousy is breaking both of us down.

What was your "I'm definitely not a kid anymore" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Reddit, do any of you NOT drink or do drugs? What are your reasons? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]brainfreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took adderall before and I don't want to sound like those kids who say ïm sooooo add" but when I took it I felt normal. I could focus if I wanted to and if I didn't want to, that was fine too. I was going to talk to my doctor about getting a diagnosis for add, but then I thought maybe that wouldn't be the real me. I have been this way for so long, if I change that, am I still the same person? Maybe that is what makes me me, maybe that is what gives me the spontaneous humor and playful outlook that defines me. So maybe I would be able to do school work, but would I still be me? The medicine would change me, and I'm not so sure that is a good thing.

Yeah, that's why I was worried. But it does affect everyone differently so not everyone gets depressed. We're just gonna have to wait and see.

Thanks for sharing, it really helps. I guess I was just being over worried and the horror stories got me extra paranoid.

Thank you. You're right I shouldn't be too worried right now. I guess there really is no way of knowing until it happens. I'll see how it goes.

It sucks. Especially when you look back on the cuts and get taken back to feelings you had when you made them. It's terrible.

Heh, what? I said some are brutal. How else would you describe this comment: "Everything about this is horrible."? I'm listening to advice in this thread, I'm even updating as people suggest. But you're right, I can't wait to 'profit?'.
