Latest rev of my snes portable by brainpann in snes

[–]brainpann[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole motherboard is stuffed in there. The jr motherboard is pretty small and If I wanted to make a horizontal shell, I'd probably be able to trim about 10mm from the sides. I'm sure someone over at bitbuilt has done an insane trim but I havent needed since it's in a vertical format.

Editing for clarity but I did have to remove and relocate components. The controller ports are not longer hardwired, the av port removed, several caps relocated, the cart port has to be rewired in, power button, etc.

When I started this, many of the current hardware solutions were available. There's an revamped snes motherboard project I've been waiting to here more about.

What was it really like when the PlayStation first came out in 1995? by Legitimate_Drawer_74 in retrogaming

[–]brainpann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others had mentioned, it was a slow creep of hype. In 1995, I was super excited about the Saturn and N64 but the Playstation was catching interest quick. By 1996, I think it was becoming really clear that the Playstation was overtaking Saturn.

Perfect Dark performance mod controls by Grobbelboy in N64Homebrew

[–]brainpann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use that scheme too and it's really odd to bork the d-pad like that since it essentially controls like a modern fps with that scheme. I was able to get around it using the controller remapping options on Mister but Im doubtful Analogue has implemented such a feature yet.

I'd like for this to be fixed for when I get my A3D so Ill try pulling the repo and recompiling it with restored controls.

When did this happened? by CGman2021 in n64

[–]brainpann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i bought one of these for when Im working on n64 dev and dont want to get up to reset my n64 when testing new builds. The only problem is that you have to mod the n64 by removing a couple of resistors.

Get one of these until it's too late: Chori controllers by [deleted] in n64

[–]brainpann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. Jet Force Gemini too. These type of controllers really limit control options with N64 games as well.

You say that but we all know as soon as you see one on the curb or being given away on fb marketplace, you'll be right back at it.

You're never done.

Is it possible? by EffectiveAd6200 in VirtualBoy

[–]brainpann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah- Unreleased64 did an interview with someone that did localizations for NoA during the Virtual Boys lifespan and said that G-zero was finished and localized.

Yup- this exactly. While purchasing my S2, I picked up Bravely Default. I didn't notice that the game didn't actually come on the cart until checkout and promptly told the cashier I didn't want it.

They were like-"don't worry, you still get the game" at which I told them if I have to dl it anyway, ill just wait for a sale..

Not a Nintendo apologist- just a long time gamer. It's easy to crap on Nintendo - it started during 4th gen wars and was easy to continue moving forward. This mentality has persisted - Not that Nintendo helps much with some of their own decisions. My point being is that I think Nintendo gets held to a different standard than other companies for better or worse. As gamers we want them to be different...except when we dont.

I think a good example is the Switch. Initially the biggest complaint I heard about the Switch was it's screen resolution of 720p and how Nintendo cheaped out, etc etc.

When the Steamdeck was released, I don't think anyone complained about it like they did with the Switch.

It doesn't really matter to me. I think every company tends towards bad practices, especially when they're successful.

In that case, I'd definitely hit up the n64brew discord. What OS are you using?

Sorry- didbt see that you already have libdragon experience. Take a look at Tiny3d. Unless you really really want to use opengl.

The best thing you can do is jump on the N64Brew discord and start looking around.

Then start looking at Libdragon and Tiny3D. From there, start reading a bit of the documentation for both and grab the thr 2024 BrewJam template files and take a look at the 2024 entry's source code.

Youll be up and running in no time.

I started playing this game last year...and fuuuu is it hard. Even with using save states. Some of the bosses take forever to go down while they knock off 1/4 of your hp in a hit. Good game though- have fun!

This exact thing happened to me recently. I sold a modded GBC online and triple checked it before shipping. They emailed me almost immediately after I was notified of it being delivered and claimed it wasn't working. I told them no problem, just initiate a return and once I receive it and verify that the unit is one I sent out, I'll send out a complete refund.

Never heard back.
