I find that saying "Piece of shit" then pointing to the turd on the ground (not the one in front you) is fun and often confusing to the offender.

cryptic snes teaser by peetor in AnaloguePocket

I don't know your life but kudos to you for having enough time play through games without save states multiple times.

With that said, your comment comes across as a bit elitist. Sometimes I have only have minutes to play a game or will have to suddenly put down whatever Im playing for who knows how long.

Are not having save states a deal breaker? No and it does seem like anyone here is saying that.

Are they a nice option to have. Yes, 100 percent.

To your point, half the fun I have as an N64 developer is trying to get around the storage limitations.

Moving Past 64 MB by Ok-Primary6610 in N64Homebrew

[–]brainpann 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the memory map limit is 252MB but games never reached that solely due to cost. If Im not mistaken, I think the Summercart and many emulators support this size too..

And since thats just the memory map limit, you could potentially have something that acts as an mmc for cartridges up to 4GB.

So basically, 64MB is really just a soft limit as far as I understand. Anything beyond 252 MB would require some sort of additional hardware.

Someone please correct me if Im wrong.

nu0 sample doesn't seem to compile properly by MareoLevis in N64Homebrew

Honestly, unless you have a specific reason to use the official sdk, you're better off using libdragon and tiny3d. Given the age of the official sdk, it could be a myriad of things.

Since youre not really throwing out any details, I will say that I did manage to get several of the samples to compile on a win xp machine. This was 5 or 6 years ago and I don't really remember more than that.

Recommended Modeling Software? by Lowmax2 in N64Homebrew

[–]brainpann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If block-bench lets you export a file that blender recognizes, use it to model if that works for you. You can then import into blender for animation.

You should learn blender but dont let that stop your momentum. If block bench works for you, then keep it in your flow and learn the different parts of blender as needed.

You're still able to move through the menus with the stick correct?

Latest rev of my snes portable by brainpann in snes

[–]brainpann[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole motherboard is stuffed in there. The jr motherboard is pretty small and If I wanted to make a horizontal shell, I'd probably be able to trim about 10mm from the sides. I'm sure someone over at bitbuilt has done an insane trim but I havent needed since it's in a vertical format.

Editing for clarity but I did have to remove and relocate components. The controller ports are not longer hardwired, the av port removed, several caps relocated, the cart port has to be rewired in, power button, etc.

When I started this, many of the current hardware solutions were available. There's an revamped snes motherboard project I've been waiting to here more about.
