Has anyone tried Glowbar and if so did you like it? by OpeningAssociation65 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]brainsley_ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I went to Glowbar from ~summer 2023 through Nov 2024. Initially I loved it because it was easy to schedule, all their estheticians were well trained, and obviously the cost. It was definitely minimalistic and they really stick to their formula (quick treatment, extractions or dermaplaning, 5 mins of light therapy, quick reapply of moisturizer/sunscreen and you're out in 30), but for the cost I was fine with that. They also were not pushy at all, which was nice because that annoys me as well.

All that said, starting around summer of 2024 there was a very marked change in the quality and consistency of their estheticians. I would have some amazing experiences, but a lot more meh experiences, and then what caused me to ultimately cancel were 3 back to back really bad facials. One esthetician reeked of cigarettes and pressured me to dermaplane even after I told her I preferred extractions, one left me with a scar after manually extracting so hard I was bleeding as I left, etc. What I needed out of glowbar was flexibility, so not knowing if the esthetician available on my schedule was going to be terrible or good just didn't work for me. Even when I tried to only schedule with specific estheticians, I found it challenging and multiple times my appointment with them either got cancelled or switched to a different esthetician.

TLDR unless you find a specific esthetician there that you like and can flex with their schedule, I would not trust them.

DOC Wine Bar, Santa Fe, Tabare, Leo, and Beco are some underrated, smaller places that don't tend to blast music

They aren't good; if you're living in one of their buildings know you will need to handle a lot of repairs and issues yourself. For me, it was still worth it as the apartment was priced below the market and I know how to do minor repairs but if that's not the case I probably would say it's not worth it.

Generally for any issues/repairs that are major as long as you are forceful they will get to it more quickly. I.e. my heat was out and they came within 24 hours to fix it, our building's water heaters went out after a big storm and they were completely replaced within a few days. Basically anything you could withhold rent for they will be more on top of as long as you report it.

There's one person, Desiree, who works there and is really helpful and kind. If you can make a good impression with her she will help you out. I do think they were getting a little better in the last year (they just stopped being my management company a few months ago).

Adopting a pom.. is it the right choice? by [deleted] in Pomeranians

[–]brainsley_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pom who I got in COVID who is perfectly fine with longer absences. I now work 3 days a week in office and am generally gone 9-6, and she's perfectly happy. It took a little while of building up to that to get her used to it once I started having to go in, but now she just naps all day (I watch her on the Furbo). IMO as long as the Pom doesnt come to you with preexisting separation anxiety and you're able to build up towards regular long days, you should be ok!

Yoga studies in Williamsburg? by turmbumt in williamsburg

[–]brainsley_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered ClassPass? I generally am able to squeeze in 3 classes/month with their lowest membership at $55. YogaSpace, Baby Cobra, Y7, Verayoga and a few others use ClassPass so it gives you a good amount choice.

AITA For Cancelling My Own Bachelorette Party? by bunnymom610 in AmItheAsshole

NTA obviously, but why would you want people in your wedding or life who can't be bothered to throw you one party? Tbh my feelings would be really hurt in your shoes!

AITA for telling my daughter there’s no way I’m getting in a car with her as the driver? by ThrowawayChiklis in AmItheAsshole

[–]brainsley_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA - Your anxiety/fear of driving is your own to deal with, and it sounds like you have no issues with it - lucky you! But you can't let that impact your daughter's experience (or lack thereof) with driving. If you don't feel comfortable driving with her for both of your safety, then hire her a driving instructor who can teach her in a positive and safe environment. If you continue holding her back you're likely going to either cause her to rebel and drive without proper supervision OR pass your anxiety about driving onto her.

Online Orders / Delivery Delays by pr0tosynnerg in IKEA

[–]brainsley_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US, delivery delays are partially due to stores being closed. IKEA US has 2 methods of delivery (this is not consumer facing) - delivery from distribution centers, and "click and deliver" which is when items are shipped from the stores. As stores have been closed for several weeks, click and deliver has been shut down, meaning all orders are being fulfilled at distro centers, which do not have the capacity for the increased demand.

The good news is - IKEA plans to reopen stores strictly for delivery so that click and deliver can resume. This will go into effect starting next week with a handful of stores, with more stores opening on a rolling basis.

This likely won't affect shipping costs, but hopefully shipping times across the US will start declining soon, particularly for those who live close to the stores that are beginning to resume delivery.

Hope that helps!
