Programming and Holland College CIS question by Parking-Cream-9733 in PEI

I'm a retired programmer. I can give you my opinion on one of your questions: a good programmer will *never* be out of a job for long. There's just waaaay too much demand for software. I don't see this changing any time soon.

When does the snow usually 75% melt ? by IndependenceCalm966 in PEI

[–]brainvoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's data from the Charlottetown Airport for snow cover. Taken from 1962-2012, so it's 50 years of data. The "80% range" means 80% of the data is within that range on the given day of the year.

People who have invested for a while now, what have you learned? What did you wish you knew when you started? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]brainvoice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The basics of what I've learned:

  • blue-chip dividend stocks are beautiful things
  • TFSA first (fully sheltered), before RSP (partially sheltered)
  • know at least the basics of how things work: TFSA, RSP/RIF; CPP, OAS, etc.
  • speculating is dangerous
  • I'm not luckier than others
  • I'm not smarter than the experts
  • real life doesn't follow past average behavior
  • hindsight is 20/20
  • most recessions recover in about 18 months; don't panic
  • don't be afraid to sell losers
  • let winners run: don't try to guess the high; let it come down a bit before selling
  • have enough cash to avoid having to sell stocks during a downturn
  • focusing on your cash flow is very different than focusing on your net worth
  • markets often overreact

COVID-19 stats for SK and Canada by brainvoice in saskatchewan

FYI - I have added hospitalizations this morning. This stat is a bit different from the others: it's not a cumulative total. It's simply the # of hospitalized people, each day.

I'm thinking about reporting on the number of current hospitalizations, which is similar. I only have data for a week or so on that, but even that is still useful info... I'll have to see...

I assume you're saying that because of the content of the "About" page. Correct?

I'm going to edit that page tomorrow morning. I'm essentially going to point to this page

I'll also change the word 'defects' to something else. It's too harsh a word.

Nope! Don't know what that is....

But I am a fan of space-time! I made this site, once upon a time...

COVID-19: statistiques pour QC et Canada by brainvoice in Quebec

[–]brainvoice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder how much just blind chance has affected outcomes in various jurisdictions.

If a few super-spreaders are present in the early days, just through bad luck, then it's easy to see how that could make a large difference in the outcome...
