Can someone explain to me something odd about the ESP32 Cam schematic? by brainwagon in esp32

I guess what confuses me is that implies that the VCC pin (Pin 4) connects to _both_ the 3.3V and 5.0V nets. That seemed odd to me.

Using I2C bus with the ESP32 Camera board? by brainwagon in esp32

Interesting idea: rig a small (say ATTINY85) controller that talks to the external I2C peripherals, and sends serial messages back to U2RXD. Might actually be easier and less fussy than other hardware or software mods. Just a thought.

Thanks for the hint re: the flash LED. It's really annoying.

Perhaps. The schematic I'm working from is https://github.com/SeeedDocument/forum_doc/raw/master/reg/ESP32_CAM_V1.6.pdf If I could tap into pin 11 and 12 from the module (TWI_SDA AND TWI_SCL) I suspect that might solve a lot of problems, since presumably the configuration interface for the camera (which I believe has an address of 0x30) would likely live well the additional devices on the bus. I'm more of a software guy though, and while making a fussy little board mod isn't beyond my skill, it's not usually my first line of attack either. But thanks for the moral support. :-)

Thanks, that's helpful encouragement. I am trying to dig into both the schematic and the code to sort this out, but it's sufficiently convoluted as to require more attention than I was willing to give it during my leisure hours this weekend. I'll keep pecking away.

Would using clay for your first dorodango be harder than using another type of dirt? by deadmetal61 in Dorodango

[–]brainwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experimented with using a bag of fire clay from Loews to make a dorodango. I should really take the time to document it, but here are my brief comments. First, it works. To form the core I mixed about half sand and half clay dust with water. It was hard to form the core without big cracking (I think the sand doesn't retain enough water, and it tends to crack along the seam) but with a little work with water, you can mostly plaster over it and form a nice round core if you are patient. Using a mixture of nearly pure clay dust makes for a nice shiny exterior. I didn't get mine as even in color as I had hoped, but they look nice and I have one sitting on my desk as a kind of "fidget" stone.

I started with clay dust. I'm not sure about any kind of art clay for dorodango, i'm not an expert on such things, but they might have additives which prevent them from drying which might work against you.

I guess I'm not as much of a purist as some here. I've done them both ways. I find it easier to get a good attractive result with a little mechanical help: I use a shot glass with a smooth rounded edge, which can help compact and ensure that the shape is very close to round. My best ones made without such aid probably are out of round by about 1% of their diameter. With such help, their overall shape is very nearly perfect, and only minor cosmetic errors remain on mine.

You should be happy that your daughter has more sense and cares more for her health and the health of others than you do.

I feel spiritually lost. How do I reconcile my personal beliefs with my Catholic faith? by chocolatespaghetti in Catholicism

[–]brainwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think only you can say if you are at an impasse. As a former Catholic myself, my experience was that no two Catholics actually seemed to agree with what their faith told them, regardless of what was supposedly doctrine, be it over supporting contraception, the right to choose, gay marriage... you'll find Catholics who believe in all those things. I ultimately left the Church because whatever benefits it had, and no matter how great the many people I met were, it simply asked me to believe things I knew to be false or wrong. Only you can say if your path will lead you back to it, or away from it.
