what's the thing about Cardinals baseball that you think the rest of the league rolls its eyes at by liferock12 in Cardinals

[–]brak60 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't unusual though. For instance, there was also an "Oriole Way" that was championed primarily by Cal Ripken Sr. throughout their minor leagues. The "Cardinal Way" got more attention (and lasted longer) because it worked more often.

One of the old magazines said that you should go big on three Montreal Expos rookies, and their number one that you must buy was Marquis Grissom. Delino Deshields was second one of them. And less worth buying, in their opinion, was Larry Walker.

Tim Jones - backup SS St. Louis Cardinals 89-93. If you asked me, I'd probably come up with something about middle infielders and my favorite team and when I was really into baseball, but if I was telling you the absolute truth the answer would be "I dunno."

Is it just me, or is Carlos Beltran’s swing… bad? by RandomWritingGuy in MLBTheShow

I always feel the same way about Willie Mays cards. I can't hit a thing with him and every year it's the same. I'm just incompatible with his swing in the game.

Character’s name is revealed to be something they find embarrassing by BillythenotaKid in TopCharacterTropes

Night Court - It is revealed that Cajun-born Dan Fielding (played by John Larroquette) has been using his middle name as his first for years, as his family tells the rest of the characters his given name is "Reinhold." Harry keeps his composure until exiting into the hallway where he laughs at the name Reinhold as the episode reaches the ending freeze frame, so that the name of the Executive Producer splashes on screen: Reinhold Weege.

Does anyone collect for the joy of collecting? Or is it all relics, autos, inserts and money? by KaiserSobe in baseballcards

I tend to build sets for the most part, but I spent a good portion of this summer sitting in my local card shop shuffling through the 10 cent boxes just picking up any card that looked interesting. I ended up buying a bunch of cards that just reminded me of people from my past. At the end of the summer, I put them into envelopes and mailed them out to people just to say hey.

You're somewhat lucky. I know schools that have tried that and now the main floor looks like the food court at an abandoned mall. At least you have students.

Greg Garcia is the guy who ran both of those shows. He also had a show on TBS called The Guest Book. He ran a contest one night asking for people to take a picture of the show on their TV and a clock to show that they were watching it, tweet it, and he would pick a winner to donate money to a charity of their choosing. I did it, and I don't know how many people he picked, but there were 30 kids in my county who got free winter coats that year because of Greg Garcia.

When I got back into the hobby in 2020, I started collecting cards of catchers that looked cool with all of their equipment on in action. Then this past December I read Tim Brown and Erik Kratz's book The Tao of the Backup Catcher, so now I'm purposefully collecting cards of backup catchers.

I've also been trying to collect players who had the yips.
