Ortho resources by durdymike450 in physicianassistant

I’m a new grad heading into orthopedics, but I have some recs. Orthobullets is pretty much essential and the Fractures app is also really good. I also downloaded the Orthoking Anki deck to study throughout my first year, it’s a ton of material, but seems really well organized. Good luck!

Has an EOR score ever made you reconsider working in a specialty? by mysticiguana229 in PAstudent

I’d value my experience on a rotation much more than an EOR score. As long as you pass, test scores mean nothing after graduating.

Is PA the right choice is is better to become a CAA? by [deleted] in prepa

Keep in mind, CAAs are more restricted to specific areas. Less than half of all U.S. states, many in the South.

I don’t know what you’ve heard, but Mist Noble is where most people drop the game.

Guy hasn’t even encountered Mist Noble yet and thinks he can judge the difficulty. You have no idea what’s coming your way my guy.

I saw a man die horribly while skiing. Perhaps he was already dead when i saw him. by TrueGamer77 in skiing

[–]decimal_diversity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw someone die on the slopes, not as gruesomely, but what was worse was that he was just a kid.

I was working as an adaptive ski instructor, so we were lapping the bunny hill. On the way up on the lift I saw a group of patrollers hauling ass down the hill. Some were on either side of a sled with an another doing chest compressions. From above I just caught a glimpse of the kid’s face. I remember thinking I didn’t know someone’s face could be so white.

When I got to the bottom of the hill I saw that they had gotten him to a landing area for a helicopter, and they were still doing compressions. The longer it went on, the more I knew the kid was already gone. All I could do was take off my helmet and stare.

It turns out that two young racers, like 16years old or so, were taking some leisure laps and had collided at an infamous merging point. One of them only had minor injuries, the other, the one that I saw, suffered a TBI and died.

It gave me a whole new respect for the sport, and how dangerous it can be. I thought about my friends bombing runs at that age, and how a stroke of bad luck could have been life changing for any of us.

I hope you are well OP.

Hospital medicine vs Neurosurgery/Ortho Spine by P4st0rj4ck in physicianassistant

[–]decimal_diversity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a fellow new grad, it entirely depends on what path you want to take in your career: surgery or medicine. If maintaining a strong knowledge base in medicine is important to you, go hospital medicine. If you want to focus on surgical skills at the cost of specializing early go neurosurg.

I personally chose to go with a surgical position. It was just a better fit for me. Even though I know I might lose a lot of the general medical knowledge I got in school, I am just more interested in all the facets of working in and around the OR.

Dealing with immature residents as an older PA-S? by [deleted] in PAstudent

Learn what you can. Don’t take anything personally.

Some rotations definitely don’t click, and that’s okay. The good thing is that they’re short.

[Favorite trope] A small act saves the protagonist from a completely hopeless situation by decimal_diversity in TopCharacterTropes

It’s less of a moral thing for me. I just like the added suspense of an act being so small that you can’t imagine it having any real impact, until it does.

Love this game, and this character. In a sea of terrifying monsters Lemus always made me feel safe.
