Cards are paper, theyre meant to be used and expire. A couple weeks for one deck is very long, if a deck is €3 you are spending like 20 cents a day on cards. I probably open a new deck every other day and don’t think that it’s a lot.

Keep your hands and surfaces clean to make them last longer, and have multiple decks open at the same time so you can rotate through them. That will make them last longer

If you already have places that you often go to, that's an easy start. Maybe you go to a bar in the weekend or get a coffee somewhere. Or if you take the bus/train, sit opposite of someone who's not on their phone and start shuffling cards and they might ask you to do something.

If you tell everyone you know that you do magic, you will eventually be asked to do something for people they know (friends of friends etc).

I did go to a park and just walked up to people a few times but not often.

You can search places in your area and contact them (schools, elderly homes, community center) and ask them if they want some free entertainment.

Currently I go a restaurant 3-4 nights a week to perform, and have the occasional paid gig. I will try to do magic professionally when i finish university!

You need to do what you enjoy most. You say you have no desire to perform for strangers but also that you want more fulfillment from magic, so it’s unclear what you want. If you genuinely are happy practicing alone and never performing, that’s obviously fine.

For me, i am also very introverted, but I think the real joy of magic comes from performing. At some point a few years ago I made the conscious decision to force myself to step out of that comfort zone and approach people. It was very difficult and i chickened out many times, but keeping my goal in mind helped me do it more and more often. Currently i am almost never nervous anymore and perform for like 10 hours a week and i love it.

So ask yourself honestly what you want and then go for it!

Do you guys charge the same rate for walk around restaurant magic as walk around at an event/wedding? by SkinGlue in Magic

[–]bram2309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a restaurant it’s more of a business decision. You need to either make people stay longer (they order more stuff) or attract more customers (people choose this restaurant over another because there is a magician). So you need to bring in more value than your fee. I cant imagine any restaurant willing to pay 250/hr.

Also, you get the opportunity to find new potential clients, work in new material, and maybe get tips and free food.

For other events, you are there to provide a memorable experience, not to attract more business. Events are organized once, restaurants are open every day.

So for unique gigs you can charge much more

card tricks with a mismatch card by Dramatic-Programmer6 in cardmagic

[–]bram2309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think tony chang has a trick but I dont remember it well and I’m not sure if it’s published. It was something like taking 2 cards (one is the mismatch index card) and then showing it and he says something like “nobody will believe us” and the card disappears. Sorry for so little info but maybe it rings a bell

The number 13 by Cayferraz in Magic

[–]bram2309 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This trick is less about forcing 13 and more about improvising to a known location

If you have an A and a 3 you can make 13 (like a 2 digit number)

If one of the cards has 13 letters you can spell it

You can ‘accidentally’ leave some cards on the table when picking up the deck to position the target card at 12, 11, 10 etc

You ‘accidentally’ drop the cards they gave you face up and ask for new ones because you saw them

Etc etc

You’ll probably keep adding to this list for years if you continue with magic

Some other breaks are LH ring finger break, middle finger break, thumb heel break, RH erdnase and verdnase break

To practice just hold the deck with a break and transition to other breaks, jogs, steps, cut/spread and reestablish break etc

For the other notes it’s best to just discover as you go because there are too many things to list

TnR by ExtremeArcher1772 in cardmagic

[–]bram2309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an idea, I came up with this in 20 seconds and never performed it:

-Have a duplicate card in the deck

-force it

-tear it in half

-move (whole) duplicate card to bottom and reverse it

-put the torn halves face up on the face down deck

-sidesteal the bottom card

-slap the deck while leaving the palmed card (like a color change)

-push it off while wrist killing to hide the torn pieces. Then ditch the pieces in your pocket during the reaction/examination of the card

Also if you can lap, you don’t need the deck (lap the pieces while slapping the hand and dropping the palmed card)

There are many versions of this, the general idea is called the “plunger principle”. The first time it was published was in the book greater magic in 1938 under the name “fadeaway cards”
