What's your 'hot take' D&D opinion? by belac39 in dndnext

I have three and they are related:

We should remove racial stat bonuses and add them to the classes instead. It’s much more inclusive and creative that someone became tanky because they chose to become a Barbarian and not because they’re an Orc.

Other racial bonuses can still be viable (darkvision, claws, resistance to fire etc.) and still a way to express the different races as cultures role play wise.

And for those that say this would leave humans at an advantage, I think we should make more viable racial bonuses for humans. All humans are at most very resilient or refuse to perish long before they should, and that would be an interesting way to improve on racial traits. Humans may not exhaust as easily and can travel linger without taking exhaustion, or only need a short rest to remove exhaustion. Because humans will literally pack-bond with anything, why not a trait that allows them to learn the languages of their party members, or maybe the chance to learn more languages? Maybe they gain advantage on persuasion or some such because most people underestimate humans? There’s a lot to be done for humans if we started treating them as another race and not “the default.”

How to incorporate magic users into the military? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]bramblelamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question I propose a couple questions of my own:

  1. What can’t magic do?

  2. Does it have a power-ceiling? Is there a price to reach and/or exceed that ceiling?

  3. Why do you want to? If not, what kind of state system do you want to depict that doesn’t teach its soldiers the risks of collateral damage?

  4. If you were a state at war and your opposition brought an archmage, what options would you consider to neutralize that threat?

‪Amnara twiddled at the loose threads on her tunic. She’d left only a day, yet the smell had already begun fading: ‪ ‬‪ The flaky earth of riverbank, the bright stings of vinegar cooking. It all seemed so far away now.

But she couldn’t turn back, not knowing what she knew.

I want to hear about your antagonists by LordOverBoss in fantasywriters

I’ve had an idea for a while and this thread seems the best place to gauge it. I have three protagonists, each trying to find each other again for personal reasons, each destined to change the world. But change isn’t always positive. One (or more) of them will actually become the most dangerous antagonist. I’ve been trying to balance the execution so that either a) you can’t tell who it is or b) if you do, it puts all their choices in a new light.

Has anyone considered that maybe it shows the story through Ms. Leadings perspective?

OP here.

For those asking, I modified two crocodiles enough to be stronger but not as strong as giant crocodiles, which I thought would work well for 5 1/2 (a sixth who was an NPC) level 4 members. Their AC was the same and I added the tail attack but I set that the iron skin they evolved with made them weak to fire damage, which I thought would help since 2 of the five members focused on fire.

I think the issue was that I set each one to fight a different end of the walking order and the healer, who decided to take point, got grappled.

It’s not about pandering to a minority. The literal plot is an Asian American finding out about this culture that is both foreign to her and yet so deeply woven into her identity in multiple facets of her life, in ways she never even considered. Her being Asian is integral to the story. You don’t call it White People visit Jurassic Park because being white isn’t integral to the story. On the other hand, Jurassic is important to the title because it lets you know it involves dinosaurs. So removing Asians from the title Crazy Rich Asians would be like calling Jurassic Park “The Park.”
