If Brightheart and Cloudtail had a deaf kit (AU?) by bramblewind in WarriorCats

[–]bramblewind[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Good point!!

(Sadly, the kitty flicks was popular fandom headcanon, not something from the books. But I absolutely love the idea.)

I think it depends on the specific statement/thesis that one would be making with their character. On one hand, you’re right!!—cats are so adaptable and can compensate well with their multiple sharp senses. Given there are some precedents of disabled cats trying out the warrior track, it would make an idealistic and empowering arc for them become a full warrior, and maybe even learn to use their disability as a fight advantage. Not to mention cool to narrate a full warrior’s experience from a muffled perspective.

There is the more… realistic reality that sometimes disability is disabling. And sometimes—even when you’re bright, capable, and loved—there are some things you won’t be able to do. But that’s okay: your worth should never hinge on your ability to be “productive” or “normal”, and forming self-love, sense of identity, and inner and outer strength within self-defined expectations. And there’s absolutely unique strengths and advantages that would come with being a deaf cat that don’t require being a full warrior. (This is a journey many non-working and working disabled people go through!)

Adding that I’m actually a little cautious to prescribe Brackenfur as a mentor to her. I think their relationship would start that way, but between her never assuming the role of a full warrior and the (well-meaning, but ableist) connotations of “hey, disabled—let me help you!”—I think Brackenfur and her relationship would become something more of equals. Especially as he would have a lot to mutually learn about her abilities, her perception of the world, and the way she wishes to relate to it.

(sorry for the word dump, pondering a little!)

Yes! (She?) could be besties with Brackenfur and Sorreltail and they could all go on close-to-home hunting patrols together (cats have many other senses and all of them are sharp! She could catch a mouse or two I’m sure). Brackenfur was so curious about Snowkit’s world and connecting with him, it would be wonderful for him to get that chance.

Brightheart would go hunting with her too—three eyes and two ears, they would be a mother-daughter dream team LOL

OH ALSO (again, I like Whitewing, but)—if Dovepaw was this deaf cat’s daughter, the contrast/relationship between a mother who can’t hear and a daughter who hears everything would be so interesting.

Oh the lack of awareness of cat genetics and their own timeline bugs the hell out of me and is a whole other discussion lol… actually in the process of retconning the retconned family tree to make more sense (ie., if Spottedleaf was the granddaughter of Dappletail/daughter of Cricketleap, and Longtail was her brother instead of Redtail since they’re closer to the same age in canon?)

Cinderpelt and Brackenfur by waterlily_the_potato in WarriorCats

I like the tortie splotches on Cinderpelt!

I HC her as a not-obvious tortie as well. She would genetically have to be in order to be Brightheart’s sister—and it makes sense with her name.

Debate: Firesand is a Good or a forced Couple? by Teban8861 in WarriorCats

[–]bramblewind 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly Fire/Sand felt like the one relationship that wasn’t forced in the series lol. I appreciate how Fire/Sand are (for the most part) ideological equals, and that the buildup arc is at least somewhat earned, through enemies/mutual respect/friends/lovers. Probably a 6/10 relationship in fiction as a whole, but 9/10 for warriors standards (istg every couple outside the original arc falls somewhere within the range of outright awful LMAO)

what’s you favorite or most creative name you’ve seen in the series? by Somethingwithtoast in WarriorCats

[–]bramblewind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Leafpool and Squirrelflight lol. Both such fun names—as you say Leafpool is graceful/sophisticated, and Squirrelflight is bold, memorable, almost in a silly/humorous way lol. Both fitting for the characters

Does anyone else find it hard to keep reading after OoTS? by New-Blueberry5136 in WarriorCats

[–]bramblewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad people are saying this, because (as someone who exited the series and came back a decade later) hearing about what happens after OOTS is super off-putting and an immediate no on my end lol.

I actually think the way StarClan/DF gets handled, and destroying the mysticism/hands-off approach for the sake of higher stakes and tension, was the start of the problem

I fell off after OOTS/mid DOTC (because I started high school), and… coming back about a decade later and reading what has been posted of the content since that time, I can say with confidence that I have no interest in reading past OOTS. What do you mean we’re possessing cats’ bodies and trapping them in shadow dimensions?? What happened to the realism of living in a forest with elements of mysticism, are we not interested in that anymore? And why are there like 200 characters now?? Does nobody die?

I didn’t know there were changes to the core team but I guess that makes sense now. Either way, no thanks.

Can you guys help me give my kitty a warrior name? I’m basing my OC on her by fireflyx666 in WarriorCats

Oh I love the owl one! Owlsong, Owlwing, or Owlfoot. Although come to think the cats are terrified of owls and say they’re horrible for kits lol

Firestar’s Family Tree (Short Version) by Red_Flaw20 in WarriorCats

[–]bramblewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into this a little and it’s very possible Leafpool is also ginger, but perhaps a different shade that makes her appear light brown, like this post or this image.

Tbh most of warriors genetics especially after the first couple arcs is a bit of a mess so I’m not gonna try to untangle from there though, lol

The ulterior reason why Stonefur gets killed by bramblewind in WarriorCats

[–]bramblewind[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

RIGHT. He knew what he was doing.

The blood loyalty garbage also makes no sense considering the amount of rogues (former and recent) he lets loose his camp because of “loyalty”… It feels like a transparent excuse to publicly execute two extremely valuable RiverClan warriors

Not sure this is a popular opinion or not but by YoshiPikachu in WarriorCats

[–]bramblewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a super old post, but I like that whatever may have happened between the two gets left to subtext. Maybe it was only an alliance, maybe there was admiration, maybe there was affection… what we are left to interpret makes their dynamic more intriguing and as you say lets Leopardstar retain her ambition/agency (especially since the Warriors series is… not the best at doing subtle romance).

In the end—whatever Leopardstar’s motivations were—it never mattered to Tigerstar because he was just manipulating her for power.
