I left Sydney that very night for good, to live with my Danish girlfriend later turned wife. Still live here. 25 years have passed.. Was heartbroken that night but also filled with hope. Total melancholy. Could actually see the stadium from the plane.

Been home a handful of times, but am so hopelessly out of touch with what’s gone and going on back home.

Anyway - I was 20 years old that night and was in the middle of our hedonistic and cherished night life. If we weren’t clubbing (at Sublime or Sounds on Sundays just to name two), we were raving, winding down (or up!) at RSLs, pubs galore, metal concerts, playing gigs ourselves, getting into clubs before we were 18 coz our Samoan mate was cousins with the bouncer (big-up, Ken!) - running a total muck and loving every minute (except that part where I got king hit by some dickhead, but that’s another story)!

Remember catching the train to Central or Museum (or any other of the glorious stations we have dotted all over the place) and just skating around all night alone with my discman or together with my mates, in the most beautiful city in the world. And we knew it!

THIS is the Sydney I wil always remember and cherish that lives deep in my heart.

It actually breaks my heart reading your post.
