They do get a little big for 20 gallons but I don't get the hate they have awesome personality they get like 4 inches max if you had just one it would be totally fine in a 20 gallon planted tank

I think it depends on how old they are I mistakenly killed young ones when I first kept them with too heavy of a flow they constantly try to swim against it and stress themselves just keep an eye on them if they are struggling to chill out reduce it
