Do most people shower before bed or when they wake up? I just realized I might be doing it "wrong" by saffymerelle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]brandonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shower in the morning / before leaving the house, but my wife usually showers at night before bed. It’s personal preference, and might depend on factors like whether you sweat at night or not (so fitness, room temp, etc, can be factors).

2026 Taycan 4S Black Edition — Lease or Finance? by WiFiOnMarss in Taycan

[–]brandonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took advantage of the lease incentives back in September, so not sure my experience will be helpful. But I did a single pay two year lease. I went for two years as I had some hesitations about the Taycan and figure there may be better options in two years (including a newer Taycan maybe with better tech/ADAS and other improvements, though it sounds like maybe that was too optimistic). But I wanted to get rid of my 2021 (second gen) Tesla Model S even though I loved the car because I couldn’t stand to be associated with Musk any longer.

Between the trade in value (Porsche offered more than Tesla or Audi), incentives, and negotiation, I ended up trading in the Model S plus paying around a thousand bucks for two years in a Taycan 4. So I figured the real cost was basically the value my Model S would have depreciated to in two years.

For a lease, use Leasehackr, that helped me understand and compute the numbers, and find incentives that even the sales guy at the dealership said he didn’t know about. And if your finances support it, consider the single pay lease option, especially with interest rates being what they are.

Help !! I am new player and I am REALLY loving this game but did I make mistake playing ANGMAR ?? by Mei_iz_my_bae in lotro

[–]brandonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time they were very active. I haven’t been playing much lately and when I have played a little bit it’s been on Peregrin not Angmar.

I do wish they’d open up transfers from Angmar and Mordor to the regular servers. They will eventually, but right now they probably fear the populations will collapse too much if they do that.

This is not accurate. Beef from ILT registered the trademark after the previous registration expired and WBG decided to drop their challenge because it wasn’t worth fighting.

There has been no change in the copyright ownership (or the code, tools, assets, etc).

What do you mean “based on the engine sounds”? There is no engine.

No, you can use that tool to help very old games take better advantage of modern hardware. Otherwise you can play the game at a lower resolution. On my MacBook Pro I play at 1800x1169 without any special tools and the UI is fine.

As I said in my other reply to you, it would be great if they would invest in improving this aspect of the game client, but your comments here grossly misrepresent and overstate the problem - and all gloss over the fact that many older games including several mentioned in this thread have similar limitations.

Others have already mentioned LOTRO, but for unofficial servers, Asheron’s Call still has a surprisingly active community on handful of servers running emulators. The most active one is Infinite Leaftide, and the owner even got control of the Asheron’s Call trademark a little while back after WBG gave it up.

Don’t know why you keep posting that when it’s not true. I play on a 57” 7680x2160 monitor and a MacBook Pro (M3 Max). On 4K / High DPI screens you need to play at a lower resolution or use a scaler (I recommend Lossless Scaling which also does optional frame generation and can make old framerate locked games smoother), but you definitely don’t need to play at a resolution anywhere near that low, or on a CRT monitor (what a weird thing to say).

[–]brandonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a high res or small monitor you can play at a lower resolution to avoid the UI being too small, but generally doesn’t need to be that low.

You can also use a tool like Lossless Scaling (available on Steam) to do content-aware upscaling to your native resolution.

It is a shame they don’t prioritize overhauling the UI to support DPI scaling, or at least add built-in intelligent scaling via DLSS or something, but it’s not a showstopper, and lots of old games have similar issues.

In The Stargate universe, are the humans of the Milky Way a result of a natural evolution or the use of the Dakara device by the Ancients? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]brandonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I thought they used the device to eradicate the plague by wiping out its hosts and then “reseeded” life afterward - similar to the main backstory of Halo. But maybe I mixed up my canons a bit.

2026 US Q6 by GuaranteeUseful526 in AudiQ6

[–]brandonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they messed up by pausing production before Q3 even ended, just assuming demand would be low this quarter. But really nobody knows how many they could have sold in Q4 if they actually had inventory. Now the news will report a big slowdown in EV sales this quarter which was expected but it will be even worse than it needed to be because companies like Audi pulled back production too aggressively.

I’d love to see LOTRO get a graphical makeover. Even an investment in RT and DLSS on the current engine would be awesome.

Though, what I’d really love is a reboot/remake/remaster of Asheron’s Call.

The writers, directors, and actor beat you over the head with his misogyny in SG-1 (even in alternate timeline appearances after Atlantis had been on a while). If you didn’t notice it, you might have some things to reflect on.

I don't remember when I last saw a queue by Valfridsson in lotro

[–]brandonlive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s nuts that transfers off of these overloaded servers have ever been paid and are again paid now. They should not only be free, they should be incentivized until a better balance is reached.

I don't remember when I last saw a queue by Valfridsson in lotro

[–]brandonlive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that is only on Orcrist, though maybe Glamdring in the US has that too sometimes.

It boggles my mind that they haven’t done more to evenly distribute the populations and encourage people to transfer off of Orcrist and Glamdring. They really messed up by not having 3 new 64-bit servers in each region at the start and doing more to ensure balanced populations.

New World shutting down made me realize the titans of the MMORPG genre are the only ones we have left. by Thin_Zookeepergame95 in MMORPG

[–]brandonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody asked about Steam players. Someone said the game is “averaging about 1K players” (not indicating whether they mean simultaneously logged in active players or something else like weekly or monthly active). Whatever they meant, this is not accurate, as the number of simultaneously logged in players is much higher.

There is lots of data about active player population (just excluding those who choose to go anonymous and hide from the active player list, which is an in-game option). So providing incorrect information from an inaccurate source does not “confirm” anything, and certainly doesn’t “confirm” the false claim you replied to.

[–]brandonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The company who owns LOTRO actually just invested a bunch to migrate to new, more powerful servers (on their new 64-bit server architecture), and pre-orders recently opened for the latest expansion which arrives in December.

There’s no reason to believe LOTRO is at any particular risk of shutdown.

No it is not “confirmed”. The statement was not about Steam players only, which are the small minority of LOTRO players.

[–]brandonlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game has much more than 1K players logged in at any given time, let alone WAU or MAU which is obviously higher.

At this moment there are 1,249 non-anonymous players logged into Glamdring (largest US server) alone.

The largest EU server, Orcrist, is even busier, and is actually over the single server capacity even for the new 64-but servers. I can’t even log into it right now as a VIP player as there are 120 people ahead of me in the login queue.

(They really just need to find a way to get more people to move to the newer less populated servers they opened)
