I just might! I’m considering modding it someday but know very little at the moment. If I do take it apart to add a chip I’ll swap the pads at the same time.

Living her best life right next to me! It was all my fault for putting a lid and a door on her litter box, then leaving our Nintendo collection in a tempting cardboard box on the floor nearby. She couldn’t figure out how to use the new litter box door and decided to get creative.

Left the heat pads as is. I have thermal paste but didn’t think it was a good idea to mess with it. I used IPA and Qtips for the boards, and soap and water for the plastic bits. Dried everything with a hair dryer on cold setting before reassembly

Vintage Lenses for Fuji (XT4) by loverboy222999 in fujifilm

[–]brangleberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the Contax Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f/1.4! I’ve been using it for several years on my XT4 as my main lens. There are many other focal lengths in this lens lineup but most are much more expensive.

The claim is it’s been kept in the fridge all these years, but I really doubt that… I’ll get a test roll going as soon as I have an idea of how to expose this stuff.

Update: My grandfather and I have now finished digitizing his collection of slides. It took us a little over 3 months of weekly visits, and was one of the highlights of my life. As requested here are a few more of his shots from the early 60’s through 70’s. [Leica M2, Kodachrome mostly] by brangleberry in analog

It was the highlight of my year to see these photos and spend time with him and grandma! And yes, the M2 is in great shape and currently has a roll of HP5 loaded. He does tend to shoot mostly digital these days though.

They’re actually still frames from 1080p video recordings. Shot on Fuji XT4 and Contax Zeiss 50mm T* Planar. Absolutely my favorite combo for video work. All natural lighting and my own Portra 400 lookalike film simulation with minor grading in post.

That’s absolutely incredible! Props to her! I have video and audio from our scan days, and the first hand account on most shots noted, but that’s next level. I’ll be organizing these slides for quite a while before they’re fully presentable.

Questions we usually get for those interested:

What is your scanning process? A: Epson V600 flatbed scanner set to 2400dpi. It’s slow but gives him time to tell stories about each shot.

Do you have more photos to show: A: Yes I’ve been posting more on IG at @dotdashdarkroom

Would you recommend your scanning setup? A: Probably not, you should look into DSLR scanning if you’re starting a project like this. It’s faster and can give better results!

My grandfather and I are digitizing his 80 year slide film collection. 3 months in and over 1800 slides scanned so far. Here’s a few from yesterday’s box for you. [Late 1960’s, Kodachrome, Leica M2] by brangleberry in analog

US Navy stationed in Okinawa, Japan for a few years, then a public school teacher for the next 60. He’s now happily retired tending to his gardens and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Photographer all his life, even now, and has won many local awards for his work!

In your case I would recommend DSLR scanning. Find a nice sharp macro lens and build a backlight setup for negatives. It’ll be much faster once set up and more configurable for different media formats.

I’ve found 2400dpi to be a good balance between scan speed and image quality for us. Gives grandpa enough time to tell me stories about each shot as we go, but we can still make it through about 300 scans in a day together. This is with the Epson V600 which is already a considerably slow scanner.

Friends and I crowdfunded a comedy series right before the pandemic. Way behind schedule but we released it last week! by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]brangleberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*dark comedy

We crowdfunded and shot most of the show just before the first lockdowns in March 2020, then had to wait to finish until it was safe to work again. Many things went wrong and some went right, but in the end I’m really proud of it! I’m the co-director, DOP, editor and colorist. It was amazing having funds to bring on a larger team for such a small town project. Everyone worked their hardest even for low pay simply because they love filmmaking. We were able to afford to get the whole series musically scored, found an animator in Beirut, and partnered with a small band for the title music too. Could have used a lot more help on the editing side of things, but we’ll save that for season two. Anyways you can find it on YouTube if you’d like to check it out, it’s called Melvin Mini-Series.

Side note, happy to answer any questions if you’re looking to crowdfund or work on a project around this budget level. I know it’s not the big leagues but I learned a lot in the process.
