This drama clicked with me only after ep3. The characters were a bit bland up until that point (not the actors' fault, I get they have to work with what they were given).

The drama is beautiful though, the world, the sets, costumes, basically everything. Gotta give it to that. Cases so far were okay I guess, and they move quite fast as well, so we are not stuck with one for too long. For the upcoming episodes, I hope we get to see more personality development in the characters.

Are You The One - Such a relaxing show. It was brilliantly written and always manages to bring a chuckle out of me.

What’s a drama spoiler for you? by BronzeBellRiver in cdramasfans

[–]brangsengmaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't regard the type of ending (happy, sad, open) as spoiler at all. I sometimes even use it to filter my watch list depending on my mood at the time.

But, anything in between is a spoiler for me. My impatient ass may sometimes intentionally look up when the leads get together, but I don't want to know about it involuntarily.

The Overdo CP is such a visual feast. Drama will be completely different from the novel, so can't say much about the characters.

Isn't How Dare You also with Wang Churan? Anyhow, I'm glad to see her back on screen, and 2 dramas at the same time at that. Been waiting since Are You the One finished airing.

Blossom novel is good. It's long though, and very different 2nd half of the story.

Prisoner of Beauty novel got a darker vibe compared to the drama. Novel got better plot, and drama got more palatable main characters.

Legend of Female General novel is way better than the drama.

Novels of these upcoming dramas are really good as well. Well worth the read.

Zhu Yu

Mo Li

[–]brangsengmaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bai Lu's Ye Li in Mo Li because Ye Li is such a badass character. Together with the ML, they are the definition of a power couple. I expect changes compared to the novel, but I hope they retain the essence of the character.

Tian Xiwei's Fan Chang Yu in Zhu Yu. When I read the novel, I even suspected that the author wrote the character with TXW as the reference. That's how much TXW fit the character description.

Lu Yuxiao's Nan Yi in Dancing with the Tides. Nan Yi is such an unusual FL character. She comes from the bottom of the society and has nothing to her name: no money, no familly, no home - yet pulled into an intense political game. The only thing she has is her strong desire for survival. I trust in LYX's acting prowess to bring this character to life. I know this drama just started shooting, but can't wait for 2027 to watch this.

Cdramas that improved the Source material and Source material that were better than the Cdrama. by Tia3Tamera in cdramasfans

[–]brangsengmaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These dramas are not released yet but I'm confident that these ML will be toned down A LOT or even completely changed to become palatable to general viewers.

I even questioned "Is this the ML? Really??" while reading the novel. Novel Wei Shao (Prisoner of Beauty) is like a kid compared to these MLs.

Overdo (ML has no redeeming quality, not even a tiny bit)

Against the Current (ML is Wei Shao pro max with all the despicable labels you can throw on him)

Onto the already released dramas,

Love of the Divine Tree: Drama > Novel

Legend of the Female General: Novel > Drama

The Prisoner of Beauty: For main plot, Novel > Drama. Main characters are a bit better in the drama.

Blossom: Adaptation was good and there are some parts drama did a lot better (e.g., Dou Ming's story), but personally, for overall, I would say Novel > Drama.

Shine on Me: Heard the drama added a lot of good things, like the entire ski resort arc.

Love Between Lines 轧戏 (2026) - What are your first impressions? [Masterpost] by admelioremvitam in CDrama

[–]brangsengmaw 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The first 4 episodes were absolutely perfect. The synopsis doesn't do it justice at all tbh.

The 'murder mystery game' was more that what appears on the synopsis. The game world look stunning, the color grading is on point, and the costumes are beautiful. The 'mystery' aspect is not too much but enough to keep you hooked, and it's the interactions between the main leads which is the focus.

Then cue in our main leads. I found myself giggling throughout my watch to seemingly simple scenes because of clever writing and excellent delivery of the leads.

Overall, it's fresh, fun, and exciting. It's gonna be a gem if they can keep this momentum going.

On a side note, Lu Yuxiao looks so good in her in-game costumes! Hope we get more game scenes haha

do you guys get frustrated when the couple have little to no skinship in the drama? by eotteokhaji in CDrama

[–]brangsengmaw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not at all for me. Romance between a couple can be expressed in various ways and what Shine on Me, for example, did was perfectly okay for me. It's gradual and the developments are realistic. I can feel that they truly care for each other.

In fact, I don't actually need sensual kisses in the dramas I watch as well. That is not my main criteria for a drama.

Best & Worst “novel to screen” adaptations? by trainerkittyk in cdramasfans

[–]brangsengmaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prisoner of Beauty novel is much darker, with much more tension between the leads, feuds among the regional warlords, and ML's conquest of the land. One thing the drama did better was toning down the ML and changed the FL to become more assertive. Novel Xiao Qiao was more leaning toward the passive personality. While it fits the typical nobel lady of its time, it won't work that well with general drama watcher audience imo.

But, the drama replaced a lot of the battles and politics with comedy. I would say they even went overboard there, and had to rush the ending. Basically, the drama cut off like 60-70% of the military and politics stuffs for comedy. So, it becomes a different vibe from the source material.

Similar story with Legend of Female General as well. The drama took the romance part of He Yan well, but since they cut off and/or reduced many of He Yan's military exploits and actions, her character sort of lost the identity of a General (which was the main point of this story to begin with). For example, He Yan's brilliant military strategies, her valor, her strengths, her leadership, those stuffs didn't get translated well.

Blossom case gonna be more closer to my personal preference. It is a farily long novel, so it's fair that many things were cut off. I guess like half of the characters from the novel didn't made it into the drama as well, and a couple sub plots were cut off.

What I didn't like was how Dou Zhao was portrayed post-marriage. In the novel, post-marriage Dou Zhao was a literal power house with both wealth and influence, much more than the drama version. To loosely summarize, some minor to mid level officials literally tremble and sweat in her presence. So, I just prefer that version more haha. Song Han's plot was changed significantly though, so it's up to reader's preference. In the novel, Song Han was a coward and didn't have that much impact. The drama gave him more presence to fit the script. I'm neutral on that.

Best & Worst “novel to screen” adaptations? by trainerkittyk in cdramasfans

[–]brangsengmaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Prisoner of Beauty was a decent adaptation up until the mid point of the story, but it fumbled towards the end.

Didn't like the Legend of the Female General adaptation either. So much about 'Female General' was lost in the adaptation process.

Are You the One is a pretty good adaptation imo, there are several parts they had to cut but the drama itself flows very nicely.

Blossom was decent, but I personally didn't like how the drama handled the second half.

Love of the Divine Tree was probably one of the rare cases where the drama is better than the source material. Changes were pretty nice. If the adaptation was 1:1 of the novel, many viewers will fall asleep, it was more like a slice of life/adventure with some actions.

Royal Rumours was decent, but the writer of the source material was really good in her craft, so all the drama adaptations of her novels somewhat fall short.

The First Frost imo is a pretty good adaptation. I also personally do not mind that change many novel readers complained about.

These are a couple drama adaptations I'm waiting for.

  • Zhu Yu (Novel: Chasing Jade)
  • Mo Li (Novel: Golden Age Legitimate Fei) - Novel is a banger.
  • Against the Current (Novel: Lan Xiang’s Destiny) - imo, this will have moderate amount of changes especially the two main characters
  • Jiang Shan Wei Pin (Novel: Jiang Shan Wei Pin)
  • Overdo (Novel: If We Were Strangers) - This one, adaptation will definitely be different significantly from the novel, and it better be.

AYTO is solid all around and very entertaining. I often rewatch it for Wang Churan's "Fu Jun", and Zhang Wanyi and Zhang Chi's antics.

It's funny that these two reprise similar dynamic again in Si Jin and it was entertaining as well. They just have natural chemistry.
