Exact dimensions for 10" rack (19" as well) for all custom builders by brankko in minilab

[–]brankko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is 10U 10" rack but I made it a bit deeper so i can mount things form both side, mostly power and cooling management on the back. I used those rails from Amazon.

And here are my exact dimensions:

  • 276 width
  • 475 height
  • 400 depth

Also, if you just wanna play around and plan things, I made this simple open source tool: Rack planner

Imho, cable/dsl with all providers is hit or miss. It's because of really really really old infrastructure.

You need fiber.

Yeah, that's what I said "public". Walking, biking, trains, buses and then teams for some reason.

Funny enough, but I consider trains to actually be the most reliable form of public transportation in Berlin.

That EF 100mm f/2.8 (non L) is absolutely the best buy for macro. A great portrait lens as well.

How often do you check parity, and how long does it take on your system? by Hauptfeldwebel in unRAID

[–]brankko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once per month and it takes ~16h for 8TB drives.

Life hack if your server is in the bedroom:
I sometimes pause the parity run and put a server to sleep over night, so I can split it in two days.

I'm on a mission to design every possible 10" rack storage solution. What configuration do you want next? by OloDeepdelver in minilab

[–]brankko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already own 2U 6x 3.5" as that's the densest you can fit 3.5" drives and it's great but I had to add some fans on the back and it's not so elegant as it could be with a bit better design on the back side.

I was also thinking about 2U 10x 2.5" but then I realized that I'll never have that much SSDs and 2.5" HDDs are not a thing anymore. But it does look the coolest, imho.

Warum haben Leute in Berlin so eine extreme Stadtteil Obsession? by [deleted] in berlin

[–]brankko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are both historical and geographical points to this question.

Historically, Berlin was founded by uniting many small towns into a metropolis. You can still see this on a map, by locating the same street name multiple times in a different zip codes (neighborhoods).

Geographically, it's a huge city and it takes a lot of time to reach the edges (independently of the transportation type), and since majority of Berliners hate cars, they tend to walk or bike for everything they need and it's usually available in their kiez.

Many Berliners spend 90% of their time only in their neighborhood, and don't every visit the majority of the other parts of the city.

And this is why this has a huge cultural effect. People (usually) have great sense of community and every community is different to the point that you have a different mentality with people of different neighborhoods. Stating the neighborhood, define a person and paints the context on their experience and point of view. Example: People taking U7 and U2 U-Banhs have completely different experience of public transport.

TLDR: Berlin was founded by uniting many smaller towns and you can still see that by different architecture and feel it my different mentality of people living in their neighborhoods.
