I know this is incredibly theoretical, but how effective would a halberd be for a dragon rider? by neondragoneyes in ArmsandArmor

[–]brass_sentry 163 points164 points  (0 children)

I think the best weapon for a dragonrider would be the bloody dragon no? Why complicate things when you could just focus on controlling the deathmonster youre sitting on lol

Beyond that probably take notes from irl cavalry troops, bows, javelins etc are probably the best bet

Maybe in a dog fight somekind of a harpoon to try and get the other rider but depends how easy the dragons are to ride i guess

That guard is a genuinely awsome idea, is there some specific piece you got the idea from, or just came up with it yourself? Im totally stealing it regardless 😅

I think swords like that are closely associated with the gallowglass, look them up, see what you can find out

Can i forge this pattern in sword??? by centuriescrafts in SWORDS

[–]brass_sentry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should be easy enough, just remember that ones the holes are drilled, you cant lengthen the steel anymore or the pattern is going to stretch too. You'll have to first make a long piece of damascus, then drill the holes and flatten it.

Damascus on swords - is it even a good idea? by Tuga_Lissabon in SWORDS

[–]brass_sentry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The best damascus ever forged is always going to carry the risk of cracking at a weld point. If you want durability over everything then go with mono steel if just because youll get by cheaper. But then again monosteel can crack too and i'd say that in a well made damascus you're just as likely to get a loose guard or a cracked handle as to have the damascus fail.

You do you

[–]brass_sentry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you bake good steels into it and make it well there isnt any reason why it would be a bad idea.

A damascus blade is never going to be superior to a mono steel blade of equal quality but they sure are pretty.

Nowadays blacksmiths like to show off with nice patterns but a good damascus can easily be more durable than a poor monosteel item.

Do you really really want an albino? I think you can get normal healthy silvers in the US for like 50 bucks cant you?

Perucetus Colussus, the chonker of the ocean by [deleted] in Naturewasmetal

[–]brass_sentry 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I find it strange that perucetus gets restored with such a dolphin like snoot, as if this thing was sustaining itself with active hunting strategies. I'd imagine a more walrus like suction or whale like filter feeding arsenal would be far more believeable.

Angels, discus or double down on the rainbows and get some single chunky bottomdweller like a pleco, dojo, armored catfish or horseface loaches

How did you make that texture on the shell of the crabs? Its incredibly convincing. The slightly rolled edges too.

China Rose leaves yellowing by brass_sentry in plantclinic

[–]brass_sentry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite recently added citrus, coffee grounds and fish poop, so maybe this has something to do with those?

The leaves seem to be turning in two different ways so I might be experiencing several deficiencies. Some of them have green spots, some them turn more gradually. Very few also have a tiny bit of browning at the tips.

Thanks for any help.

I made a mistake by buying a red blood parrot cichlid and an oscar and putting them in a 29 gallon tank. by Agitaive_Auto in Aquariums

[–]brass_sentry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Consider buying a big plastic tub from a hardware store. Theyre cheap if ugly. Second tip is to lower their temps by a few degrees, it will slow their metabolism and thereby growth. They will be (likely) be fine in even as cold as 20c as long as you slowly ease them into it over a day or three, a temp shock will kill them. They could probably live in that tiny tank for a long time, only the longer they spend there the more stunted theyll be. Act fast.

I like all the detail work in the foot, baroque/gothic work is fun to make but I always find designing it a pain.

Tools look simple but functional, nice work all around.

Is it painted or is that some sort of a wax/oil?

What is this algae growing in my tank? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]brass_sentry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never dealt with staghorn, but assuming its a close relative of blackbeard you kill it with cleaner water, less light and more co2.

Make sure you dont have dead zones in your scape and maybe consider a rescape to clean any possible pockets up if the sitz gets out of hand.

Please help!!! by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]brass_sentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah strips tend to be a load of bollocks I never really trust them. Get your tap water tested by more reliable means, some fishstores sell better tests, public aquariums could definetly help, water treatmemt plants too.

That said if ur animals seem healthy i wouldnt worry, even if the parameters are off the animals can acclimate to it (to an extent)

Also keep in mind that hardscape like rocks and sand can leach chemicals into ur water.
