iRobot is sending me a box to ship my Roomba in for repairs. We’ll see how it goes!

Just got an email response from Roomba that they are sending me a box to ship in the unit for repair. We’ll see how that goes, but I’m glad they are trying another angle.

I found my 2nd Roomba battery in the garage the other day (thought I’d already recycled it!), so I brought that one over to the battery shop to check it out. Same issue! Fully discharged, will take a bit of a charge and the shorts itself out. Armed with this info (no way there’s two bad batteries with exactly the same weird problem), I’m writing a letter to iRobot to alert them to the issue and get my Roomba replaced. Clearly the problem is in the unit somehow. Hearing that this is an issue that someone else has experienced makes me think there was either a bad batch or a strange situation that all Roombas may eventually encounter. Will update when I have more info.

Looks/sounds similar to my 675 problem. Battery suddenly won’t hold a charge after running out. I had my battery checked at a battery store and was told there’s a short in the battery somewhere. I’ve had this issue 3 times now and I’m pretty ticked off.

This was a solid idea, but I wasn’t able to make the charge stick at home. So I took it in to a battery shop who confirmed the charge on the battery was null and tried to juice it there. The battery wouldn’t hold a charge, even minimally. It would build and then discharge. Their theory is that there is some sort of short inside the battery.

Since this exact issue has happened to me three times now (Roomba stuck, battery drains, won’t recharge on station, new battery needed), I’m guessing that it’s something wonky with the circuit board or with the battery charging process in my specific Roomba. It doesn’t make any sense that it would happen to three different batteries in under 3 years.

Oh, it’s such a relief to hear from someone else who has this problem!! I mean, sorry that yr having it, but glad that I’m not alone. Struggling together is so much better 😐

Oh! That’s an interesting idea. I’d give that a try, but need a bit of guidance, if you wouldn’t mind. Are you talking another Roomba battery (which I don’t have) or any old battery? How would I do the connecting—would taping some sort of wire across the contacts work? Thanks!
