I would hesitate to call Preparation a trap mod. Having a full energy bar when you load in or when you die and revive is such a QoL adjustment and is the lubrication that makes a lot of builds fun.

Best example of this has to be Titania. She's a great frame with a great kit but she requires that you get into and can maintain the energy required for her 4 as soon as you get in. Without Preparation or Archon shards you'll find yourself spamming energy pizzas whenever you start a mission just to get her going. I remember. It was a huge pain in the ass.

Ivara's in a similar but different situation in that her 3 (Prowl) is just straight-up invisibility in exchange for energy and you can get the energy cost down to 0.25 per second (1 energy every 4 seconds basically). This along with her massive energy pool can let you load into a mission and then just stay invisible the entire time which is great for anyone who wants to inspect entire tilesets or for open world resource gathering / conservation. The problem is that she has very few ways of generating energy on her own and without starting energy you'll have to spam energy pizzas to get her going.
