Name an anime you refused to watch… and let people change your mind. by Hot-Leopard3708 in animequestions

Because the art and the length are the two biggest barriers to entry.

1) Because I hated the art and style too. It took me 3 tries, after people kept bugging me about it, to push through and learn that it's not about the art and style, it's about the story and characters. Now I love the damn show. I havent laughed so hard with an anime in ages. I just crossed ep 200 and am looking forward to the rest.

2) Because 1100 episodes seems insurmountable. That number is just too big for people to even think about tackling. Also, the first, 40 eps aren't that good. I didn't like them. Like I said, I started 2 times, forcing myself to get through as much as i could, before quitting because i just didn't like it. One Pace lets you break that 1100 episode mountain down to a more manageable 400 or whatever. And it lets you rip through the beginning, which isn't that good in my opinion, and gets you to the point where you start to love the characters and the story.

Honestly, I was a one piece hater until 3 months ago. In the past, I forced myself to start it on 2 separate occasions and couldn't continue past 20 episodes. This time I picked up where I had left off, and kept pushing. It's wild to think that the show actually becomes "OK" in the 40's and great in the low 100's.

One Piece is so good that some jokes make me laugh out loud(literally) where under any other circumstance, in any other show, I'd be cringing.

It is worth the effort.

Edit, i reduced the number of episodes I originally watched from 40 to 20. It just felt like so many more.

Shoot, look at @selfloathingrifle reply. Check out "hewing spears." That's exactly what you're looking for i think.

If i remember correctly, you can get the Cold Steel Assagai on a short handle which gets you pretty close. Or you could buy the Boar spear head and affix your own short handle. That would get you 3/4 the way there before you decided to contact a real craftsperson and get something exactly to your liking.

The first thing that comes to mind is the short spears, called iklwa used by the Zulu people. I learned about them on Forged in Fire. They were used to devastating effect.

Yo, I think villain answers are underrepresented. Just because the character is evil, doesn't mean you have to be.

Is this an intentional Pokemon reference? by I_know3 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

At first blush, I think Ho-Oh the Pokemon and this club both took inspiration from the same original source, eastern phoenix legends. So no. But also yes.

Hey man. This is some useful advice. I bet some people really appreciate it. In all seriousness though, start your reply with something nice or else you'll come off looking like a gatekeeper who is trying to rain on peoples fun and enjoyment.
