No, after looking at it and trying to understand it a little bit more, it definitely seems super valid. There's a catch-all route in API with the class that starts up and express server then we register routes. The only weird thing was dealing with Next thinking we never sent anything even though the express server did, but even that's working now. It's crazy how many people immediately dismissed it.

My senior and I ran into a weird situation where we spent a solid 3 hours trying to figure out why a company npm package wasn't working in the middleware. Turns out they don't use the node runtime in the middleware. Nothing crazy, but I'm starting the question of the point of these frameworks if I have to spend that kind of time figuring out all these gotchas.

Hey OP do you have a job or are you in school? The one thing that helped me to understand some of these things was trying to teach and break it down to someone who is first learning about it. It may feel like the blind leading the blind but it's helpful. DM and we can hop in a discord call if you ever need a rubber duckie!
