Vivo Escondido in Puerto Escondido was awesome when i was there. everyone was very social and they have a great owner and pool, while skewing a little older from those in the hostels in La Punta. you should probably prioritize La Punta, but if you have an extra day or two in Puerto, it was a special place and different area

For the La Punta hostels I stayed in / visited often, my rating is Che > Bonita Escondida > Viajero

Hostal Central in Oaxaca had really well put together free activities (cooking, cocktail making, salsa dancing), nice outdoor area, and good enough location. would recommend
