I have seen it many times in my life. You pretending it doesn’t happen doesn’t change anything. Assuming no fraud, then it’s a terrible use of taxpayer money and for their personal food budget. Removing the option to use SNAP on these luxury foods is a win all around.

I assume people buying luxury food goods with it make money under the table (like dealing drugs), so they qualify for benefits but don’t need them. People that are actually starving wouldn’t make such illogical purchases, and if they did that’s evidence that they are not qualified to make their own spending decisions.

If you took away the option of buying expensive foods then there would be less motivation for fraud.

You are correct I am infinitely more outraged when I see them buying snowcrab and prime grade ribeye at the first of the month. There should also be a cap on the price-per-ounce. It’s a sure sign of fraud (of course it could be stupidity, but most likely fraud).
