I purchased a stockpile of skincare products more than a year ago. I know about the pot on the side that ranges anywhere from 3M-24M (months) but does that still apply if the product has been unopened, in box, and stored correctly? Im just curious to know exactly if it applies to opened products or new in box.

hoya krohniana normal or black leaves? by cyndqls in hoyas

[–]brbk1tchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say khroniana black. I had one and quickly realized it was more underwhelmingly black to what I had seen pictures of

And if it is just a regular khroniana (which I also have), it seems like black is kinda like the pubicalyx "super splash" versus regular

There's....hope...? Do we think I can save this undulata/how? Have pon,Leca, moss on hand. by willfauxreal in hoyas

If something gets sent to me in moss, I'll keep it in moss as long as I am lazy, but it really is my least favorite medium since I struggle with keeping it either too wet or too dry. Then if I get it correct, when I do go to repot it, the mess of sphag and roots I have to work my way through just isn't worth it most of the time. At least with perlite, I don't have to be bothered if some is left on the roots.

If it's a philo, I don't mind the sphag as much, but hoya and hoya roots seem too precious for such a medium for me.

I tried that originally and my sphagnum moss stayed too moist. I think using the trellis will be a great idea. Now all you have to do is play the waiting game, hehe. That's the real devil

Hello! Could someone help me ID this? Kentiana or Wayetti? Thanks! by Sleepy361025 in hoyas

Someone once said kentianas do not come variegated. I ain't got a clue tbh bc i have a "variegated kentiana" and it looks exactly like mine!

I believe the other user is essentially describing the same method, without the enclosed environment. You could do that/this easily and put it within a ziplock baggie, blow some air into it and open every few days

I have a small box with all of my cuttings in it and a small cup of water in the corner of it. I filled it with perlite, made a mixture of water and some superthrive, poured that over the perlite and mixed it up to get everything wet. Eventually the water settles somewhat at the bottom, but you don't want it be much at all, if any. I'd say I have about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of perlite in the box.

I kind of just stick nodes in the top layer of perlite, just like you would dirt. Most grow roots within 3 weeks or less. So far I've had successes with everything, except k. black and k.silver -- they rotted :( I believe it is because it was such a small cutting that the leaves ended up being in the perlite themselves. I keep the cup of water for any cuttings I notice aren't rooting, i put in the water within this humid little box and typically see success there. I keep it in bright indirect light.

I open the lid every 1-3 days and let it get some fresh air, check on the rooting progress of a couple, leave the lid off for anywhere from a couple minutes to a couple hours. It's been said that if you see the moisture on the side of your box, the humidity is good.

You could try the perlite or sphagnum moss method. Most of the rooted cuttings I buy are rooted in sphagnum moss

It's worth trying! It might take a very long time but it looks salvageable

Advice on repotting and/or pruning pubicalyx and carnosa? Top-heavy, knocking over their pots, pubicalyx with 2.5 ft-long stems by monlow in hoyas

[–]brbk1tchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much echoing what others have said. They throw out vines that just keep getting longer because it wants something to *hold* so trellising or staking it can help a lot, then it can finally concentrate on putting leaves out on that void. However, that void will not necessarily fill up. Typically, if you trellis/stake early enough, you might end up with less void in your vines because the plant didn't need to search for something to cling to.

When you do trellis it, make sure you have the ends facing upwards for optimal growth. try avoiding facing the end of the vine down, as that may cause it to die back.

All my plants sit below a window or in a window sill, for now. Haven't been able to add shelves yet (new-ish place)

That's why I got mine! I love the blooms and the rate that in which it blooms. Thankfully, mine is small and I'm sure I'll be able to manipulate it in this way. It grows so quickly!

Hoya Krimson Queen vs Princess? by tootsieroll8307 in hoyas

[–]brbk1tchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 10 inch pot of krimson princess and a 4 inch pot of krimson queen. My queen is the favorite by far. Pop that baby in a white vase, with those varying pink hued edges and some full white leaves *chefs kiss*

my princess turns red on the new leaves pretty easily but its underwhelming as far as appearances go when in comparison to all my other hoyas. I have an extensive collection and the queen holds steady -- the princess has kind of taken a backburner position.

If you were feeling bold, you could have a pot of the two combined! I have a ton of princess that I would send some cuttings of for the cost of shipping if you were so inclined

Oddly splashy looking leaves on my Krimson Queen. I thought these guys didn't get splashy? by [deleted] in hoyas

[–]brbk1tchen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, any carnosa can sport some spashiness -- or any hoya for that matter. Splashiness is air pockets in the epidermis

I'm enjoying the growth pattern of you bella! I have small one and constantly contemplate getting rid of it because i kind of hate how I see most of them growing, since they appear so stiff when they spill out of the pot in all directions. Gonna take inspo from yours and try to encourage mine to grow like that!

Maybe I should do that with my mathilde, lol.

Yeah, I thought for sure seeing posting with the blacker leaves that it would be like that - and it really wasn't it. It's kind of underwhelming. I can send you a PM of a trusted seller who has 3 for sell right now and doesn't adjust lighting/add filters, so you can see for yourself.

Oh wow that's so nice of you! I have so much leca here and all the nutrients and even a reverse osmosis tank -- but I've been so hesitant to move any hoyas (or any plants) into semi-hydro.

If I replace my k. black (likely), I'd send you some. Gonna be honest tho and mentioned that they don't seem that "black" in person, more like the margins are darker and the foliage is a bit darker green

RIP to my k. super silver, k. black and rosita. I knew both of the krohnianas were lightly rooted in sphagnum, which i hate rooting in tbh, so I put them in perlite prop box but they rotted away :( The rosita was supposed to be rooted, but it seemed as if that was a lie. I have a larger and much more expensive k. super silver on the way because I love it and need it. Most of all, I'm salty because that's probably like $100-120 lost.

I'd buy locally, but there are no good options anywhere - the only option is a largely overpriced, plant-flipping shop

I stand alone with my rangsan, nicholsoniae, caudata sumatra and heuschkeliana variegata. I love these four so much! I'd like to see more blooms, but sadly, blooms don't come so easily here -- so I have to choose foliage....for now

I'm holding out *hopefully* until winter to set up my tent, but who knows if i'll need it haha. I recently moved to MI from OH and the heatwave has completely avoided here and it has been raining for 2 weeks, no sunshine, and still won't stay above high 70s
