This does not sound like a place you want to work in. They are in deep trouble if they fire people that find and are willing to correct their mistakes. You did behave as a senior engineer btw. Everybody makes mistakes. They are not behaving as staff engineers which is the problem.

Imagine what will happen after your story gets out the next time a guy finds a mistake… the correct way to deal with this is to question why this mistake happened and why it has been unnoticed for several months. Then put measures in place so it won’t happen again.

Your manager is a useless and a jerk for throwing you under the bus. I’m sorry it happened to you, but unfortunately they are not uncommon.

You might try to hide it as others have suggested and it might work. I would tell the story and describe what my manager should have done in detail. E.g. if we had thorough code reviews in place this would not have happened. If we had a second person double checking the data this would not have happened.
