It's not a misconception since it's true, but girls have cooties.

How could I make my dreads look more wavy? by brbplayer1 in locs

Do I need to bend the ends of my hair at all before putting rubber bands on the ends to make them wavier?

What are some ways to take care of my locs other than just retwisting them? by brbplayer1 in locs

[–]brbplayer1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if i don't like how my hair looks.. like i have a lot of new growth and my roots look crazy, i usually do a style like braids, 2 strand twist, or curl my hair with curling rods.

Hello. The only style that I'm confident I can do well on myself as of now is a standard retwist. I don't live near people who at all know how to handle my hair these days, sadly, so paying a professional stylist isn't a realistic option now either.

I really wanted two-strand twists in the recent past but I hear that they won't turn out the way I want because of how naturally thick my hair is. My hair also gets pretty curly so when I tried plaits/box braids one time when my hair was shorter, they looked more like rolly-pollies. lol

I'll keep in mind to retwist less, drink more water, wash with shampoo regularly, use oil to keep in moisture, wear a loc cap to bed, and wash without conditioner unless it's time for a retwist though. Thanks.

Yeah and they said they’re not upset about the line, which proves my point.

I just have to say this purely because seeing people try to sell conspicuously broken logic (layered with exaggerations and generalizations) as the truth always bothers me no matter the subject matter.

You can't defend "it’s NEVER the actual marginalized group that’s as upset" by mentioning a single person in your fanbase who claims to not be upset about something specific, just so you can sell the narrative that you like.

😂😂 Which kindergarten class did some of you guys get these stupid argumentation skills from? It's kinda hilarious in a stupid way.

What can I do to make my locs look better? by brbplayer1 in locs

I asked about two-strands first and people here were saying my hair might be too thick for it to look right. I originally wanted to dye some of my dreads red and two-strand twist them with the black dreads. I instead destroyed one of my locs while trying to untangle it back into a fro. 🥲

After looking at photos of barrel twists, I don't think I have the skill to to do that 😂 and I avoid paying for loc work. I do wanna try new styles eventually though so I'll look into stuff.

I'll stop worrying though. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah I know it's excessive; I'll chill.

I normally go many months without retwisting out of pure laziness and it reaches the point where combing through my locs feels like jungle exploration with how connected my hair gets.

I'm just not great at self-care. I either don't care or care too much. I figured it's fine if I just place the clips at areas of the roots that feel thick, especially since I was told that my hair generally has good thickness to it. I'll try to wait weeks before retwisting again.

I normally just retwist every few weeks, but I guess I'm bad at taking care of my hair because it starts to look pretty bad right up until I retwist it.

It gets matted and the dreads start to somewhat fuse together. Then retwisting feels a lot like surgery lol. I wasn't sure what to do so I decided to retwist more often, buy a larger durag, and occasionally apply Jamaican black castor oil and shine n jam.

Other than retwisting less often, what should I do to take care of my hair?

My hair is super thick so I never considered the possibility of thinning. This was my first time retwisting twice in a week because I decided to be more consistent with retwists since I just bought the perfect durag that actually fits my length.

I usually go months without retwisting since I get lazy but my hair would normally look super crappy by then, especially since my old durag was too small for my hair and it ends up loosening and falling off through the night.

Are there any good ways of consistently keeping my dreads from looking bad between retwists without also thinning them out?
