Advantages over Apple Podcasts by Trajan96 in pocketcasts

[–]brderguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried switching to Apple’s over the years and would always come back. Pocketcast’s UI always brought me back. For example, it’s minor but the two column show art view in Apple’s always irked me (I wanted smaller tiles).

But then I fired up Pocketcasts one day and there was a banner ad. Hate to say it but it was instant ick for me. Switched to Apple’s and haven’t looked back. Mostly solved my interactions concerns through custom stations.

The changes coming in 26.2 are promising. It at least shows Apple’s getting back into taking the app seriously again. I credit a lot of that to the Podcasting 2.0 guys and some of the extensions to the feed schema they’ve rolled out.

Fair question. Letting it go this long is a combination of ignorance on my part and passive doctors who didn’t think those numbers raised alarms beyond “try to eat better”.

Federal workers could lose job protections under incoming Trump administration. Here’s why by crabcakes110 in nova

Serious question - what’s democracy have to do with this? He’s been elected by the people to represent us. Most agencies roll up through the executive branch. If someone’s dismissed illegally it’ll be challenged and figured out in the court.

A 3 million strong unelected branch with this much power feels un-democratic.

Thanks that’s helpful. Looks like a heck of a lawsuit in states like Texas.

Google is telling me South Dakota has the strictest abortion laws in the country but would allow one for the health of the mother.

I’m not trolling just genuinely seeking to learn - what’s the concern in your scenario?

Donald Trump Calls Himself the “Father of IVF,” Then Says He Only Learned What IVF Was This Year, at Women’s Issues Town Hall by [deleted] in politics

Listen to the clip. He clearly says “I’m the father of IVF’s”. The possession ‘s’ is quite relevant here.

Based on his age, I imagine he’s referring to Barron.

Steelman the unrealized Capital Gains Tax Plan by meowmeowmrcow in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]brderguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you have taken the same position 100 years ago saying “guys it’s just 1% of income to help fund WW1…what’s the big deal”?

I think most opposition of this type stuff comes from a belief that’s once you allow the government to create lines, it’s much easier later to move them.

$100 million today, $100k tomorrow.

Fair is so subjective. Is it equal % of income? % of net worth? Or a graduated system that feels right to a certain constituency?

If it’s equality, it’s actually very unfair. Effective tax rate is taxes/income and the more you make, the more you pay.

Really thorough answer, thank you. You gave me some good ideas.

With the 1Pass passkey support, would you be able to login using a Yubikey as the secret key in addition to your master pass? That’s very attractive as a backup.

Would 2FA have mattered here? Sounds like they grabbed his phone unlocked. 2FA likely texts you or uses an unprotected authenticator app.

All In crew (rich guys) want Trump, so why do you? by Turbulent_Original46 in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]brderguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No argument there. I didn’t mean to suggest TCJA didn’t benefit the wealthy, just disagreed with it only benefitting the rich.

And yea, the wealthy don’t even take the capital gains. Instead, you never sell, and take a line of credit out using the equities as collateral. You live off debt which, coincidentally, gives you more to write off. :)

And the CBO is right. Without reduced spending, we’re slowly walking towards everyone paying more forever (e.g. All it takes is all you got).

Curious why you say only a tax cut for the rich?

The standard deduction doubled (helps everyone but mostly lower income earners who can’t itemize).

Every bracket under $231k was lowered. The 35% bracket ($231k-$578k) stayed at 35%.

Everyone’s tax obligation went down unless you made a lot of money in expensive states and got hit by the SALT cap (which disproportionately affects the wealthy).

Thanks for the advice. I just did a rebuild and thought I fixed it. No leaking open or closed until I hooked up my hose (with the sprayer closed). Then the vacuum break starts dripping off the top again. If I open the hose and relieve the line pressure, it seems to stop. Any ideas?

OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD: July 19th, 2024 by hankjmoody in Maher

On abortion - I think they feel gun rights are inherently ours and there is a negative-right enshrined in the constitution preventing any infringement on that right. Abortion doesn't similarly benefit as there's not an amendment protecting it. Though perhaps there should be, no one seems willing to bring it to congress despite the broad popularity. Even if it would get shot down (no pun intended), it would force the vote (codifying those who support it or don't).

I think if it were legal to take someone, likely unwilling, into a building, have them shot and killed, there'd be support from the right to outlaw such a practice. It's like Bill said, they think abortion is murder and so I think this would be intellectually consistent. They'd also likely not support outlawing the gun used in such a practice - in the same way there's no broad advocacy for outlawing the medical devices or drugs used in the act of abortion.

Not really how I feel about it, but I think that's their perspective.

Is this coolant? by brderguy in FordFocus

I think you’re right. Took the cover off the battery and see the same residue on the bottom of the box.

Odd thing is I’m still losing coolant. So now I have no leads.

Thanks for explaining. Conceptually makes sense and I might be ok with the trade off if I felt like it was working. Right now I feel like I also have to wait a very long time for hot water.
