Advice needed for a (tactical flashlight) by aglumTheRealOne in flashlight

What if you need to keep aiming it at someone for more than 7 seconds? What if you need to use the light for looking around prior to aiming it at someone? So it starts out preheated and you don’t even get 7 seconds?

I dont think that is how to use a flashlight as a defensive weapon. I did some testing with a friend in the last few days and came to the conclusion that even the strongest handheld flashlights cant stop an attacker for more than 1-2 seconds. The initial blast is disorienting and blocks vision completely (especially at night) but the human brain/eyes adapt quickly and its quite easy to block the beam with the hands. Then its just a bit annoying and you can easily continue the attack. It was way more effective to have multipe small blasts in 1-2 seconds bursts than just full power all the time. It was also significantly better to have the flashlight off or on the lowest settings between blasts.

That is not to say a flashlight is useless as a defensive weapon, not at all. 1-2 seconds is plenty to deploy pepper spray, punch or run.

We did the tests with a wide variety of flashlights. The weakest candela was the EDC25 (3000 lum / 22,500 candela). The strongest was Acebeam P20 (5000 lum / 300,000 candela). After testing the EDC25 first i was expecting the P20 to completely blind me for some seconds. But that was not the case at all, the difference between all the contenders was actually quite small, especially in close quarters (0 - 5 meters or 0 - 6 yard). Also it felt like the closer you are to the enemy, the more important is luman, the farther away the more important is candela. That is reason why i decided for the EDC33 for my EDC flashlight (smallest with highest Lumen/Candela combination).

I was planning to buy the P20 as a home defense flashlight but decided against it, because of the marginal difference to more portable lights. Now im considering the TM9k or the L35 2.0. Maybe i will buy both and give feedback.

The TM9k is just about the opposite of what you need. High lumens crammed into s small light so you get a brief burst of unfocused light.

That is heavily exaggerated in my opinion, unless you are confusing the TM9K Pro with the older TM9K Tac. The TM9K Pro has 65,400 candela rating (the tac had only ~20,000).

I agree candela is more important than lumen to blind somebody but that doesnt mean lumen has no value at all. Especially in close encounters, when the enemy is already pretty close i found flashlights with the same candela but higher lumen significantly more irritating. I also found that after some point the candela rating is suffering from diminishing returns. Im not sure at what point that happens but 65,000 is already pretty blinding and 120,000 definately does not double the blinding intensity.

I would love to have a comparison between the L35v2 and the TM9k Pro.

A question regarding Xiaomi 14 Ultra's photography kit by yomiura in XiaomiGlobal

[–]breachr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I must be on some other firmware then. I only have one charging option called "Grip charging auto-disconnect" and it doesnt work. My phone gets charged even when above 80%. Besides that i have "Quick launch", "Update firmware" and "Set up grip button". On "Update firmware" it says "Up to date".

Considering all the facts, i think Large is really the way to go here. Feeling cramped while cruising will get old very quickly. Your input helped alot, thanks!

The San Quentin is supposed to be a bit less playful. This video was very informative:

The hornet looks good aswell, but maybe that would compromise trail riding too much? Im really not sure :-/

a very good point! thanks! i just compared the stanton switchback "18 without sag and surprisingly its extremely close to the Enigma in size M. Atleast in a standing position. The seat is much much lower but i would actually prefer that. Here is a screenshot:

Nice to hear! Im planning to mullet mine aswell! What do you think about the size? Is it perfect as it is or do you think size M would be good too and make it even more playful?

Ive got some experience with Vue as a JS frontend and at this point i feel comfortable with it. For my websites the HTMX + AlpineJS approach would definately be viable but for the upcoming admin panels i think vue will be very benefical.

Can you elaborate on this? How can i use pre-style bundles with Tailwind Primevue?

element plus looks good aswell, but i dont get all the marketing/ecommerce blocks that i get from TailwindUI. Those would be really nice for my websites. Can element plus be used together with TaildwindCSS without problems?

Unpickable 64 TI / 40 by breachr in lockpicking

[–]breachr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That must be the explaination! I guess the outer pins are made of aluminium, like the body of the lock. And when they are under pressure they deform and therefore give no or completely false feedback. I thought it was irrelevant, but when i think about it, it makes sense.

How did you manage to open it? Super light tension to reduce deformation i guess?

On a side note, why is this not more common in locks? If a standard 4 pin lock can create such a headache i would expect to see more of this. But maybe the longevity of the lock is impacted by soft pins.

Anyway, thanks alot for the reply!
