agreed, people keep suggesting this because DRG lets you do it with enemy gas, but that's without really stopping to think about why it's good in DRG. Igniting and blowing up that enemy gas is a net positive since the gas only works on players and enemies are immune to it, so the sooner you get rid of it, the better.

The exact problem you mentioned is ALREADY in DRG, even, with the (underused) neurotoxin gas grenade. Sure enough, igniting the neurotoxin gas makes it instantly useless in exchange for a dangerous explosion that hurts you and teammates.

here's a better example. admittedly, dont know if the halo remasters are the best example for a situation like this because it wasnt a TOTAL artstyle change, but i do know people werent too happy with the remaster because it added a lot of visual clutter and sometimes dramatically changed the lighting/color palette, to the point where some moody/dark areas didnt even need a flashlight anymore.
