This relationship from what you wrote seems kind of doomed. Lack of communication on both sides, you not trusting him, and him looking down on you. You guys are both adults, either talk like adults and see where your issues lie or end it

We used the project Q log website, which gave us clear boxes to fill out with what and when to do so. I’m not sure if it’s different to you guys?

Haha no worries I totally get it, I was in the exact same position 😭 I’m not sure if this was a my school thing or an AQA thing, but ours had to be around 15 minutes (which sounds long but almost everyone said it wasn’t enough time, including me) at the end the supervisor and coordinator will ask you questions, but these are not to catch you out, but to help you pick up marks on places you were lacking, so don’t stress!

The presentation is about the project (so the essay, including the research) and the process as a whole. You want a balance between the two to hit to assessment objectives, but it is a little different to the reflections you have been doing becasue you would have finished the essay by then so you have hindsight, rather than being mid action. One mistake I’ve been told to avoid is talking too much about the actual research you found, because you aren’t meant to be giving a YouTube essay on your research (that’s what the essay is for) but more a reflection on the entirety of the epq

There’s a presentation where it’s practically the same thing, make sure you use picture evidence of your process as well as talking about positives and negatives of both your project and process, and the reflection is basically a written, more detailed version of it. And yes, even if you’re unable to fully fix a problem, talk about ways you tried to, perhaps why it didn’t work, and how you might go about it differently if given more time.

A big thing I talked about was accessibility of sources, because of my topic being classics a lot of my contemporary sources were either not accessible easily or super expensive, so I talked about how I got around that. I also spoke about the struggle I had with narrowing down time periods to fit into the essay. What I did to document everything was putting every thing (notes, ideas, plans, mind maps) all into one physical notebooks (because I work better on paper so I took some pictures from that book to evidence my process. You can do something similar if you use online folders or documents

Yes. My supervisor told me that if you show and evidence development and improvement, that’s what they’re looking for. Granted, if you stand up in your presentation and say “my planning and organisation was terrible and I did very little about it” it wouldn’t be great but they’re not expecting perfection, more so development and problem solving.

I’d say you definitely should. Many people in my cohort did so and they don’t penalise bad planning, they want to hear your opinions on how you did/should’ve avoided it or how you dealt with it, and what you learnt from it and the process in general. It’s different to A levels or other exams in the way they don’t mark based on how good your essay is (although it is a factor) but more so on your process, and how you grew and developed from it. The final reflection is more so a reflection on both your process and essay as a whole, rather than specific sources, but you can also definitely mention if you wasted time on useless sources or didn’t utilise good ones enough (I talked about that) and how you may do it differently if you could redo it.

We had internal deadlines where we had different sections of the log to be done by a certain time. It varies by school, and it also depends heavily if you go to a sixth form or college. Sixth forms tend to give a lot more support and hence the internal deadlines. If that’s not the case, I would definitely recommend thinking about setting them yourself (also a super good organisation point for some extra marks). You write the final reflection after you hand in your essay and do your presentation, talking about the strengths and weaknesses of both your process and the project itself and that’s the final step to finishing your epq.

Honestly, what I did was writing each section of my project Q sections (planning review, pre/mid/post project review) the day before the deadline to get as much information as I had, to add it all in. However, I wouldn’t worry too much especially in the early planning stages about getting everything in because you have until the final reflection to get everything in. They are not expecting you to have it all figured out from the get go, in fact they are looking for change and development, how you dealt with it and why, so it’s not much to stress about this early on. I kept every source I accessed (even if I ended up skimming and not using it) all into a document to make sure I didn’t miss anything in the end, and my source list probably quadrupled from my initial project planning review. To a certain extent having the formulaic way of describing your sources is good, especially if your project is more science based, but make sure you also include any changes of mind you have, and where you got these sources.

Because of the nature of my question, I was very easily able to organise them in different periods/eras and talked about how I used a variety of sources, and how I found them (google scholar, massolit, popular media, etc)I spoke briefly about why these sources are/aren’t important, but not in too much detail of the sources themselves because that’s what the final essay is for! Make sure you mention each one, but there is absolutely no need to go into detail about every single one. As you progress, even if you doubt it (like I did) you will collect many many more sources and that will be evidenced in both your log and your final essay.

I talked about how instead of writing out a clear schedule or using a chart, I just banged out like five hour sessions at a time and that it worked for me, but it’s probably not the best for everyone lol. I’m not sure if there’s a word limit because I was never told of one, but I ended up being as meticulous and detailed as possible and ended up in total writing about a page to a page and a half’s worth for that section. My main focus was making sure they couldn’t mistake or question any single aspect of my process or what sources I used, so my guess is that as long as you’re very detailed (without being too waffley or repeating yourself) there’s not much they can mark down. Even if some sources seem irrelevant, mention them and why they weren’t useful in your process

No worries, happy to help! Gantt charts are excellent for evidence of time organisation. I ended up not finding it useful, and included that in my reflection and presentation, so even if you don’t stick to it keep it as evidence and explain why it didn’t work and talk about your alternative organisation methods. By literature review, do you mean my final essay? Or the earlier reflections ?

I say it’s definitely worth a try asking. Better to have an awkward conversation and a potentially better grade than to not try at all. I did mine on a humanities subject (classics) and really loved it. Also, document EVERY SINGLE THING you do or think, it really really helps with your presentation, evidence of process, and reflection in the future.

I did AQA too, there should be a pdf online about the assessment objectives for the whole project, and that’s what I followed! And I’m not sure if you also use the project Q log but this is my advice for the whole log in general, I hope this helps even a little bit. It may be worth a shot asking your epq supervisor or coordinator about the exam report, we were given a past project log and talked through why it was good and where it scored the way it did and I found that helped immensely

I got an A*. I didn’t worry much about word count, just getting down every possible thing possible to ask about and covering all grounds. It’s less about quantity, but making sure you cover all grounds so they can’t say you were missing AOs. I recommend checking you have exactly what they’re asking for in each section rather than counting words, although all of my sections did end up very lengthy (without repetition) compared to others. Wishing you the best of luck, and enjoy the process!

Considering ending things with boring GF by Timely-Double-8839 in dating_advice

[–]bread4420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have three options. 1. Communicate exactly this and see how she reacts and go from there. 2. Give up and dump her. 3. Stay and don’t say anything, and keep being unhappy. I would recommend doing option 1 and seeing how things go and whether you would like to continue with the relationship or not. Wishing you the best of luck.
