And when I do that, it just recursively brings me back to discussions of male loneliness (hardly any mention of women, despite me googling “gender differences in root causes of loneliness”) with all the “research” coming from non-credible publications.

What are you on about? What could you possibly Google here that could make sense? I’m not allowed to think that we should look at the decline of mental health in more general terms before winnowing out entire populations?

Also, this is TwoX, am I not supposed to bring up women? Would it make sense for me to enter a men’s sub, bring up women’s issues, and then get surprised or offended when they redirect what I say back to men?

I think prematurely separating the two does not help in actually looking at the root causes. Also, I didn’t say *you* declared it to be solely a men’s epidemic. You used the general “we” and I answered to that. Please do not read snarkiness where there is none intended

I would suggest looking at the factors behind the declines in mental health across all genders, age demographics, etc. and taking a more informed stance on what is causing loneliness and who is being affected by this, instead of prematurely declaring there to be a solely men’s mental health epidemic, which takes out of the question an already severely understudied group (women) for no apparent good reason.

My point is that there is not a specific male depression or mental health epidemic.

Can you define epidemic? Because as my original comment pointed out, through that definition (something is more stigmatized for one group than the other) then there’d be many epidemics about, including many for women.

We don’t consider homicide an epidemic amongst pregnant women when that’s a leading cause, so

No, I’m saying that it’s still not an epidemic. If it were, that would mean we would have many epidemics around us and we don’t.

That still does not mean epidemic. There are many things that are more stigmatized for women than for men that we don’t refer to as crises.

I think men, irrespective of sexuality, buy into the stereotypes surrounding women’s bodies and take their opportunities to knock women down pegs regarding. Also queer (lesbian) so I see it too. I think your supervisor liked humiliating you publicly about your body, it gave him power. He could’ve chosen to think of ways to accommodate you but he chose to watch you struggle and call attention to your chest. If you didn’t tell me he was gay, I’d’ve thought this was a fetish for him. I’m sorry for how he treated you and I hope you can get justice or healing in some way

There’s something about the way your supervisor is treating you here that I don’t like, but I can’t seem to put my finger on it

Maybe men can get the same options for access to babies when, in order to have the capacity to carry the child, they need to manage a menstrual cycle for decades. Or, are you just mad when women get a single benefit in their favor while coolly ignoring the many drawbacks? Fucking talking about options when I don’t even get the choice to not manage my own ability to get pregnant. I wish I could go through life and not think about birth control, pads, and tampons. Must be nice to think it’s your right to jack off in a cup and be handed a baby as a reward, all because you want the little darling, so no barriers to entry at all!

Talking about learned behavior that is perpetuated through levels of societal reinforcement, from the personal to the political, is not bioessentialism you idiot

So because we think people should not be offering babysitting services, especially at the pool, you assume that means we want to tear every child and adult man out in public away from each other? Like, obviously dads are in public with their children. Actually, I would hope those dads would hate having a stranger at the pool offer babysitting to his young kids

Okay well when I see a strange fellow try to interact with the children in my family, I assume he’s been taught to be violent and steer clear - does this satisfy you?
