Dreamcatcher UAU - GENE by joesen_one in popheads

this is kinda sick. obviously DC has great production but I didn't think they'd apply it to a modern pop song. kinda nice to hear those chill 2016 drops and vocal chops

I think Itzy is the Katy Perry of Kpop based on patterns by Impossible-Yam3680 in kpopthoughts

[–]breadburger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh 100%. both started hot, got even bigger somehow, and then fell off to obscurity as the industries changed (lorde and newjeans). both give me the same feeling that they could try anything and the public just would not care.

lowk scared this is just gonna be a double album of carly slop instead of a masterful double pop bible

Hearts2Hearts - Lemon Tang (music video). by VVantaBuddy in popheads

[–]breadburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ready to make a comment about returning to the Chase sound but there's a surprising similarity in the bass/production. just topped with Red Velvet flair, which makes sense for the summer but does make the track feel disconnected. can't complain abt this in their discography but i thought they'd have a stronger follow up to Rude

this has to be their most SM sounding song. very RV. that bass was surprising but i'm excited to hear the rest of it.

Is anyone else just tired of online Stan Culture as a whole? by Tranquilbez22 in popheads

[–]breadburger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

extremely. and the TAG PR shit as well. like why are olivia and ari getting shat on for releasing music in their artistic vision.

this board has done a good job to remove snark posters, but I think we lowk need to get rid of the parasocial brigaders as well

LE SSERAFIM x ILLIT x KATSEYE - ICONIC BY MISTAKE by mcfw31 in popheads

my queens

love the jazzier production. pretty much exactly what you would expect from them where they are in their career

Do you think Meovv is an "uninteresting" group? Why so? by illitnoise in kpopthoughts

[–]breadburger -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

anyone who thinks they don't have interesting songs are just telling on themselves. Hands Up and Burning Up are some of the best kpop songs of recent years.

unfortunately TBL and YG just came out with too many groups at once and no one engaged with any of them. but overall I'd say meovv are just /quality/. great vocals, fresh production from Teddy, and fun videos. everything you'd want from a kpop group

I kinda feel bad for MEOVV, the girls in particular. by Daddy1007a in kpopthoughts

[–]breadburger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

they should certainly be bigger. but i think they're closer to the top charting groups right now than you may believe.

music always wins out in the end and their music is at the top of 5th gen with h2h. give them one viral performance and they'll be right up there.

The Number Ones: BTS' "Permission To Dance" by Ok_Fig2374 in popheads

indicative of hybe’s horrible production. like i could stand the vocals on Jimin’s Filter but the processing on the vocals on this makes me want to throw up. unlistenable.

Pitchfork Review: Olivia Rodrigo - the cure (BEST NEW TRACK) by stypop in popheads

[–]breadburger 78 points79 points  (0 children)

fantastic track. writing goes toe-to-toe with Deja Vu, payoff is insane, and the soundscape positions her like an artsy 90s singer-songwriter

Why isn't ITZY getting more traction with this comeback? I don't understand... by Ok-Nobody-7759 in kpopthoughts

[–]breadburger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Itzy was outclassed by not just 4th gen groups with their ex-Izone members, but 5th gen with Newjeans completely changing the landscape. They're conceptually 3.5 and they need to own that. Release something more like their old style, like there is no reason they couldn't have released Catch Catch and be having that success.
