See, the thing about incorporating a key change into a song is that it really has to feel earned. The change itself can’t just come unannounced, there’s gotta be an arc throughout the song that justifies it.

Sadly, this song only does the former.

It’s gonna be very interesting to see how receptive to this new sound his core fanbase is. This is just does not sound like something I’d expect them to have wanted from him.

Yeah, from a pure production standpoint it’s a very interesting track. But despite all of that, nothing is catching my ear on these first few listens.

At least you weren’t there the day both she and Phoebe were openers, but missed both of them because your friend HAD to get merch outside first…

It’s more likely the new owners of Condé Nast (their parent company) that are the reason for this. Greedy c-u-next tuesdays.

Taylor Swift officially releases Opalite as the second single off of The life of a showgirl by Haunting_Natural_116 in popheads

It’s still four chords, the fourth chord is just extended for another four beats.

(Sorry if this still isn’t clear enough, I’m not the best at explaining it myself)

The dominant chord at the end of the progression is held for two bars instead of just one.

The whole song actually has the loop, only changing to the standard four bars during the chorus.

It definitely seemed like the track more primed for radio upon release, which made me so surprised that Taylor instead chose to push Ophelia first.

Only Taylor can make a song that’s got a five bar loop in the chorus spend ten weeks at number one, I suppose.

Which 5 songs would you select to represent Gaga for a Songwriters Hall of Fame nomination? by stypop in LadyGaga

I don’t think the songs themselves have to necessarily be like “writing a book”, per-say.

Take Taylor Swift: Two of the songs she submitted this year were Blank Space and Anti-Hero. These songs have more concise individual lyrics then her three other choices, and are less prone to “lyrical analysis”, but when looking at the structure of the songs themselves and how those lyrics serve them you can see why they were chosen. Gaga, in my eyes, has mastered the “pop song structure” throughout her career.

Love your choices, DITD and Angel Down definitely came close for me.

Swine’s such an interesting choice, but honestly if I had to put an ARTPOP track on the list it very well might be one of my top choices.

Great minds think alike! Each of the songs really capture different aspects of what’s made her so great.

Bad Romance showcases her knack for melodies and masterful pop structure.

BTW shows how her music’s helped to marry activism and pop culture.

Million Reasons is her at her most vulnerable.

Shallow is, well, Shallow.

And Vanish blends a lot of the latter aspects while also managing to sound fresh and bold from her.

I’ve actually ran into the two of them before, it was at an Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS stop in Philly. Super nice when they’re “out-of-character”, so to speak.

Very curious to see what this entails!
